Someone had asked about "red" color, this is Ironwood, stained red,

Thanks to DAKTO for furnishing me the end cap on the butt! I don't have this wood or rifle as I have gone back to the "dark side" and am pretty much a Brit L1A1 fan!!!Pete

Red Finish on wood.

GM4Spd, It might have been me that asked how you did the red finish. Looks like a very nice presentation grade finish. Lee.

Hi Lee,

I have used Chestnut Ridge Supply - Military Stock Stain on FAL stocks for very similar results.

Lee, don't laugh too hard but I used a reddish Minwax type stain mixed
with some RIT clothing "red" dye! Pete

Just got around to finishing up my R1 clone with a very nice Blue Monster stock!

And an L1A1 with an Ironwood pistol grip stained to match the rest of the wood.

Just installed an ACOG to give it the look of a SUIT.

Clonehead, Thanks for posting a pic of your R1, I plan on building mine the same way and now I know what the finished R1 will look like, VERY NICE INDEED.

Old18C, Gotta love those FN-49's with nice original wood.

Thanks Lee, still need to change out the handguard at some point down the road when I come across a nice non-bipod cut one. Also going to refinish with some Duracoat this fall.

An excellent pistol grip from Blue Monster matches up well to a 50+ year old model B buttstock on a G1 lower. (provided by Adam) Kudos to Rich in helping me to select the correct grain of wood and color.

Here is an IZZY butt stock that I picked up here in the MP from a files member, I have somewhat transformed it. It looks ok in pics BUT really looks good IRL!!

Are you sure that's Izzy? That looks like the first wood butt I really used on a gun and I assumed it was Belgian M2. Now that you say that's Izzy and it looks so much like mine and it's obviously not walnut etc. maybe I was mistaken.

BTW, I transformed much more than you did.

Yes, I am positive it is IZZY..............your is VERY NICE! I could have gone a step futher, but decided to keep it where it is until the designated FAL gets here. Still have a while before the special rifle is ready.....trust me you will see it!

GOVTMOD, your stock looks GREAT!Beautiful stock for sure!! Maybe we should talk about what our secret process was. I bet we each used a different method. Mine was somewhat backwoods and unorthodox!
What can ya expect from a Swampwater KAJUN

Somebody wanted to see BGS wood? Here's a C stock I stole for another project.

It's not done yet, so I claim that as my excuse for not having all the required photo elements...

It shoots extremely well, if fact it's the best shooting G1 i have ever fired - Also the G1 receiver i built it on is the best receiver i have got from DSA in years, timed up perfect & other than a VERY small locking shoulder it went together as good as any i have built - The ONLY reason i traded out of it is because i found another matching G1 kit & a NOS "cr" barrel i needed to finish up my NOS G1 build!!
