Anyone looking for a VPN?

I just grabbed this deal from NordVPN - https://nordvpn.com/special/deal/?ut..._source=aff614 . Three years for $99. This is touted as one of, if not the best VPN.

There is always googly, did you mean "accept" ?

I didn't accept the cookies either but from what I saw at the link it looks like a privacy device or software on your comm devices.

VPN = Virtual Private Network.

Think of it like a WWII enigma machine, but better.

You and wherever else that has the other side of the VPN are publicly on the internet, same as everyone else.

But, your conversation over the VPN is encoded/encrypted so that it's as though you had your own dedicated hotline to wherever the end of the VPN sits.

Any place that supports your VPN can become a "hotline" that only you and those you chose can use (unless you're an alphabet soup character with a BIG interest in the VPN and it's players) because only those with the key can decrypt the information in the VPN in a timely manner.

VPN is likely your strongest defense against all the uncles.

I gotta ask, though: (in general, natch) what are "normal" folks using a VPN to accomplish? Although I've been required by my employer to use a VPN for remote access to company systems to guard against eavesdroppers of all cloth, in nearly 40 years of IT I've never needed one myself.

Top-secret militia websites? Secret squirrel liasons? Weird HRC worship you don't want ANYONE to know about? What?

PGP-encrypted email gives email privacy, so I can spread my nuclear peanut butter and jelly recipe to select sleepers without others being able to know what we're planning. This is instead of VPN, and requires little in maintenance and feeding.

Why do "normal" citizens need to be able to securely run their own "hotline" from their PC to some server?

Most likely same reason you can own firearms.

Your right, it don't matter why you want it.

Except VPN is kinda like being an SOT. The need is there if it's there, but how many of us really need to be a SOT, and what are we going to do with VPN other than spin forum cycles?

I have the same "right" to VPN as SOT (more so than an SOT, since VPN is not regulated) but, so what? I'm not speaking to rights, but to practical use. I ask why any person needs VPN. I can tell you why I own firearms; no can do with VPN, hence the question. Nothing political or human rights about it.

Do you honestly believe what you wrote ?

Last time I had a SOT a license was required.

One does not need a license to exercise a right.

Apples and oranges comparing you are.

There you go, making it political after I state I'm posting a non-political question. Are YOU that full of yourself that your view of the conversation is the only view?

Outta here, nuts....

There is always natural selection, for some at least.

The op seems like one of those what do you need a gun for types.

His asking why you need this reminds me of liberal minded relatives with their why do you need a gun questions.

LOL I gave my position away by logging in..Jen has an eye on the ip of everyone on site which is cool most of the time.

NFADLR I follow u a bit across the boards, thinking about the SOT.

Back on topic been gaming a bit with old grunts and had a couple beers. Hope u make it up north would like to meet.

Danm, I multi task to much .. Go with IPVanish and Tor for u rookies it will keep the adds off your feed. I have a problem when they watch what I read, LOL. Most VPN have logs of what you are reading.

I went software the first time but my company has hardware and that is the best. Deep breathe now back to the battle, LOL..Log OUT>>>

If Tor browser is for rookies and IPVanish is so great, then why does IPVanish track you?

Right from their site: Cookies help us optimize your visit. They are also used for stats, social media, and marketing. By continuing, you accept this. Learn more

Tor Browser is free and does the same thing. And I'd be willing to bet the top IT dogs in the .gov broke all of their encryption algorithms a long time ago. Save the money and go with Tor Browser.

And very few people need even that level of hiding.

been running NordVPN for a couple mo. .. it's fun, it's fast, .. I visit EPA a lot and they always want to track me for some reason ..

you can "back door" tiny pic and upload pics like a T100 connection ..

can't beat the price for the extra speed and knowing you're "dark" .. my bank can't see my transactions .. or stops them 'cause I'm "pinging" from Singapore ..

NO POP-UPS .. NO ADS .. NO COOKIES .. !!

love it .. highly recommend it .. !!

Mutter, that is friggin funny. I love the chicks on the right link

Hey I do this for fun always looking for solutions to being tracked online.

Being a pc gamer I have been exposed to cheats people use online, and
some of the best cheats work for the military complex, I have had my system stomped a few times. This machine is running the free version of win 10 so it is useless to try and hide with this os.

I do not have knowledge of nordvpn but I read they all keep logs and if the
gov request a search they are required to turn them over.

Mutter look up tails on tor, try it and again I just do this for entertainment. My life is an open book to the feds.

They are in Panama. From https://nordvpn.com/privacy-policy/

NordVPN guarantees a strict no-logs policy for NordVPN services, meaning that your activities using NordVPN Services are provided by automated technical process, are not monitored, recorded, logged, stored or passed to any third party. We do not store connection time stamps, session information, used bandwidth, traffic logs, IP addresses or other data. From the moment a NordVPN.com user turns on the NordVPN.com software, their Internet data becomes encrypted. Any online traffic coming from user’s device is no longer visible to ISP, third-party snoopers or cyber criminals. Further, NordVPN have a strict no logs policy when it comes to seeing user activity online: NordVPN is based in Panama, which does not require data storage.

So I guess I can't trust that unseen.is doesn't store anything and will turn over data when asked since they are located in Iceland? Hopefully there are some honest folks who do what they say (or don't do what they say they won't).

I`ve just read the review of NordVPN https://topvpnchoice.com/nordvpn-reviews/ and it seems like quite good vpn. Does this special deal still valid?

Nord is really good. I like to choose the country that my IP originates from... except sometimes when I'm checking news in UK, I forget that I appear British... or French ... or Australian ... or any country of my choosing.

Really adds a layer of security. Highly recommend Nord. We really looked into it, talked to our IT geeks at work and elsewhere before we went there.
