Chinese M-14 mags--20 rds

Lady luck showed up and now I have two chinese, original Poly-tech 20 round mags..Barely used..not scratched on the base floor plate. I disected them to look-see, and found one of them full of red-grease..They had 9 coils and a decent looking follower..I have been reading the Mag article, by 'Different' with some interest..I did push the full load into them, letting them sit, and will "unload them" without duress, this week-end.The other locals have been doing their pistol practice behind our homes for two weeks now..It is About my turn to make some smoke, plus a little noise...

Soon after I purchased my Polytechs in the early '90s, I bought 20 new poly mags and they have been trouble free.... Good find....

How do we ID Chinese mags, and are they all good or are some not so good?

Thanks,
Dan

If they are new they will be covered in grease. After cleaning they are a light/medium gray smooth park finish. They will have 12 evenly spaced spot welds on the front leading up to the mag catch, and 3 welds around the hole. I colored the 3 spot welds in chalk to easily see them. The back mag release catch will have 5 dimple spot welds on it. NO other markings should be on the body. These are polytech/norinco chicom mags and are GTG....

There is also a "blued finish" Chinese mag - T-57 . These were made in Taiwan. The rear plate looks the same , but the front only has 1 weld on the side of the mag catch hole. All of these chinese mags haven't been imported since the early '90s, so buyer beware...

Thanks for the info, especially the pic. The chalk was a nice touch. This is good to know. Just saw some of those at a show last week, but the seller insisted they were USGI.

I've seen the blued mags and heard to stay away from them.
Thanks again,
Dan

The blued Taiwanese mags are good, actually. There are commercially manufactured blued magazines made in the U.S. Many of them suck.

+1 on the blued Taiwanese. Mine came with slightly thin but serviceable floorplates, everything else on these magazines is dimensionally correct.
