Belgian Lugged Barrel Issue

Hi All .. I have a belgian lugged barrel it appears that the end of the barrel is bulged . i tried to get pics of the bore rifiling to show it has excellent lands and grooves and is bright and shinny when looking down the barrel, but you cant see that in my pics... As you can see the bore gage goes in and where it stops .. when looking at the pics follow the edge of the barrel then you can see the slight rise where the bulge begins.. this barrel was for an early izzy build.. give me your thoughts please..

Thanks eagle54 /Dennis

In my opinion it’s safest to cut the bulge off. Sucks, but there’s a reason it bulged.

I had a barrel with a bulge around 17.5 inches. I had it cut back to 16.5 and mic’d It to ensure I got it all.

That’s just my opinion.

Thank you 4Markk

I kinda figured the same thing.. kills the idea for an early izzy build.. would make an excellent Para barrel , except for the lug.. what sux is the barrel has a serial number of 032 ...and my izzy lower is 029...

You could also counterbore the barrel past the bulge, and then turn the outside bulge smooth. This way you can keep the rare external profile. I had to do this to a Blue Sky import P17, where the import stamp dented the barrel.

May have to open the gas slightly.

And the best thing is, you have nothing to lose. If it doesn't work out, you can still shorten it.

Am I wrong to think that's an odd place for a bulge? Fired a live round with a blank adapter or grenade launcher in place maybe? Just curious at the cause.

Instead of cutting the barrel could you thread it for a long browning for a bgs or vennie device and still be ok?

Best Idea.v.s. cutting the barrel length You will never notice it and the crown will be protected.

Put that barrel on a receiver and shoot it before you do anything. You may be surprised.
