California Compliance Device

Just wanted to drop by here to advise any California FAL owners against making any hasty decisions just yet on compliance strategies for your FALs. We are wrapping up the completion of a compliance device for the FAL that has options available for whatever level of compliance you are wanting to achieve - from a simple magazine lock to a 3-part compliance system for those concerned about Cal DOJ having an overly aggressive interpretation of the magazine being 'not readily removed'.

I believe our compliance device and 3-part system is by far the best of all options discussed/debated yet - a drop in solution that is quickly and easily reversed when traveling out of state (with the action open of course). The magazine can safely be removed from the receiver in just seconds for when performing maintenance/clearing a jamb. There are no modifications to the receiver, no welds, no thread tapping, dealing with messy epoxy or other such rigmarole. Stay tuned, it will be unveiled here very soon.

Sneak peek

It’s finally time for another update for all beleaguered California FAL owners!

It is official, we have a patent pending on our first FAL compliance device - the FAL Locking Magazine Release (LMR). The LMR is a low profile drop-in replacement to the standard FAL magazine release. The LMR features a ‘trigger guard catch arm’ that locks in place behind the FAL trigger guard. When the FAL action is closed, the trigger guard physically prevents the catch arm - and the LMR - from being actuated to release the FAL magazine - it is essentially locked in place by the trigger guard by way of the LMR. When the FAL action is opened, the trigger guard moves down and away from the LMR and the LMR can be operated as a normal magazine release. Easy peasy!

The advantages of this device are:
- A quick drop in compliance solution - installs in under 5 minutes.
- Low-profile design - maintain your FAL’s proper appearance.
- Avoid neutered featureless configuration - The FAL is too heavy for that mess!
- Cannot insert magazine on closed action - may or may not be an issue with the Cal DOJ who knows - a non-issue with our design.
- Quickly and easily return to free state configuration when traveling out of state.
- No alteration to mag-well, no tack welds, no tapping & threading the receiver, no blobs of epoxy or other gimmicks.
- Fastest magazine removal of all Cali compliant FAL fixed magazine options.
- Not your old fashioned compliance device... Can swing open your FAL action all the way - bolt removal/clearance is no problem!

This is the first of several California compliance products for the FAL platform we are working on so stay tuned. For now here is a sneak peek of my (mostly) fully featured Imbel on Imbel FAL - notwithstanding our LMR device and a 10-round blocked magazine...

kali FAL owners can just send their guns to me. i'll take good care of them.

just send me all of your gun stuff. it'll be like ripping off a band-aid. a clean break, with minimal pain. just give up and get it over with.

either that, or move to Free-America.

Nonetheless you disgust me, and I take comfort in the knowledge that your obituary will be nowhere near as humorous as mine.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

California laws tend to spill over and infect other states, so someone has to stick around to keep up the good fight here behind enemy lines - even if only a rear guard action...

BTW - epic victory by your Eagles!

I take it you're Top Shotta HiFi on Calguns? I've been following the thread over there but just found the pictures here of the mag lock, very cool. I'm currently running featureless but am very interested in this design. Any ideas when it'll come to market?

Ive Been Outed

Hey Lurch,

Yes that's me. Haven't really unveiled it over on Calguns yet. Still developing the product - the most recent run was all in aluminum. We have to make one small change to the design and then another small test run in aluminum before we lock in for the our first run in steel. Shouldn't be too much longer. I am actually looking to do some testing of our device on inch pattern/SLRs other non-Brazilian metric pattern rifles. Shoot me a PM if you have one of these and would like to assist with the beta testing.

It would be nice to have more than one option as with one of my RiFals I use detachable magazines in one and the others have 10 round FN MFG magazines.

With the recent ruling that overturned the Nazifornia voters!!

I will keep you in the loop on the development of our device - one more design tweak to correct the angle of the transitional arm and to round out the angles of the trigger guard catch arm's finger contact point and then will be ready to roll.
Thank you for the legal heads up - my riFAL is definitely semi-automatic only.
I'll head on over to DSA to have a look - do you happen to have one of these hooked selectors for sale?

A question for those Filers who are interested - should these be steel or aluminum?
I would think steel and I was planning on making the parts out of 1020 or 1520 steel, however I've had some (admittedly non-FAL people) recommend making them out of aluminum.
What does the cognoscenti around these parts have to say about this - steel or aluminum?

BTW real nice 50.63 you have for sale - best of luck with the sale.

I might I'll have a look..

I don't have a R marked FN mfg selector but might have a DSA hooked selector in my spares.

What is the retail price of your compliance device ?
BTW make it from stainless steel, it will stand out as a compliance device.

I have a 2 SIL in RP BTW.

Here is the FALMR installed on an Argentine FAL. It fits perfectly, almost too tight. There is less than .005" between the magazine release and the trigger guard. Magazine lockup is solid. This is a keeper!

Here is a little teaser - my Imbel on Imbel FAL which I boldly proclaim will be compliant with the strictest interpretation of AB1135/SB880.

- The FALMR locks ithe magazine into the rifle until the action is broken.
- Access to the axis pin has been blocked.
- The trigger guard is permanently attached to the lower (actual attachment method hidden under pistol grip for now).

Old school FN stripper clip top cover to facilitate rapid reloads using stripper clips.
