I dunno about the Rock, but your fellow 10k competitors will provide you as much green beer as you can drink if history is any guide. ;-)

Green beans, peas, asparagus??? YUM, YUM, I love green stuff!

Green beer? Not so much. When the kids were all young, Blondzilla would occasionally make "green eggs & ham" for breakfast. I just could not go there myself. I do realize it does not really change the taste, but mentally it is just wrong

You all can have fun with that green beer stuff without me.....

LOL. My kid won't even eat normal colored food there's no way I would tamper with it. I love her idea though <3

I squirted a couple drops of green food coloring in some bread batter my ex was making for Thanksgiving. As she kneaded it, she saw the green....boy you talk about pissed.

Just one of many reasons she's my ex, lol.

Leprechaun toss?

Something tells me us smaller stature competitors will need to sit with our backs against one another.

And it's not so we don't have to sleep with our heads in the mud.

And the final obstacle - just before Stage 5 (5k) or Stage 7 (10k). You can thank the evil genius of Dustin Downard of ASE Precision for this one:

ASE Precision Rifle Crawl:

Crawl under barbed wire up to a firing point, dragging a provided rifle drag bag with a provided Bushmaster ACR and magazine loaded with ONE ROUND of ammo behind you. Staying under the obstacle, pull the bag up to you, remove and load the rifle, and make one shot on target through the available port. Unload the rifle, replace it in the drag bag, and crawl back out the way you came in. All of this will be done on the run clock, completely separate from the shooting stage. Anyone who makes the single shot will be entered into a drawing for ASE Precision gear.

Rifle and pack, yes. LBV and/or chest rigs must stay on.

Reminder: Match shirt orders must be in by March 5th to get one. You have one more week to get your order in, and shirts will NOT be available for sale at the match. The only way to get one is to order through Shredder Industries:

My turn! Sorry Kelly - no shorts today in Tennessee. Or am I even wearing pants?!?!?! You'll never know...

This stage was just a simple drag race. Only a PCC and an Open shooter beat me giving me 3rd for the stage. 4th Overall for the match. If only I could learn to shoot long rifle QUICKLY (on another stage) I could move up a slot or two. I've got some work to do there yet.

That's pretty funny - I just noticed: take a close look at the 2nd to last rifle shot, just in front of the muzzle. I'm trying to use up my "experimental" 110gr FMJ 30 carbine bullet load on these short targets. It has been a little unpredictable wih shots off call and even evidence of tumbling bullets (oblong holes in targets).

That puff of smoke might just have proved the issue. I'm guessing a 1:10 twist is just too fast for those little buggers. Good thing a big enough piece of the bullet made it far enough to still put a hole in the target.

It IS fun! I think one of those type stages per match is about perfect. If they were all like that it'd get kinda boring, but it's nice just to have a flat-out shooting contest every so often to test your skills.

Now, some more nerd stuff - here's a little more about our participants we have registered as of Friday. To give you an idea of scale we'll have 85 total competitors running the 5k, 78 total running the 10k, and 22 gluttons for punishment doing both in the 15k Challenge.

I'm amazed at how many we have going Combat Class, and surprised that more in the 10k are doing this than the 5k! And from my personal experience at other matches (I don't have data from ALL Run N Guns), this is by far the most women I've ever seen at one of these.

This is gonna kick ass!

I really enjoy the data. I just messed it up for you though bc I swapped into Combat class (I think I'm going to stick with that).

Question on the weighing in for combat class...uhhhh what are the rules for what you have to wear at weigh in? Do you have to have your shoes on...pants etc when the base weight is established? Do we get weighed before or after I eat 5lbs of RC buffet for breakfast???

Yes - you and Mel are the two lionesses. This could go either way though. You are a freaking rabbit, and she is more of a bear. She's really been working on her running a lot this year though. You both can shoot lights out. Your one big advantage (?) is that she stops to have fun a lot instead of pushing to win all the time. With you there as competition that may change.

Initial "no gear weight" is done during registration in the morning, between 6:30am and 7:30am in the Lodge lobby. I've always told the big ugly guys that for all I care they can show up nude to weigh-in, but the Rockcastle staff and local police may have other ideas and that is your problem, not mine.

I suppose in the name of gender equality I have to stick to that policy across the board. So far nobody's shown up naked, but there have been a couple guys in shorts who take off their shirts and flip-flops before weigh-in. When you eat breakfast is totally up to you. A lot of people wait to draw their start time (also during registration) and then decide when/how to eat.

Just incorporate a few of these into your morning attire for weigh in!

Come on down and play! You can just come hang out if you don't want to run. If you show up early in the morning you might see some big naked ugly dudes.

Evening time is probably better though. There's around 90 minutes between when the last runner comes in and when we have the awards ceremony that some serious socializing happens. Or so I hear - I'm always sequestered in the quietest darkest corner during that magic hour, guarded by my personal bodyguards with orders to keep EVERYONE away while I nitpick the scores.

I would run it or at least visit if I could bro. This year is the same as last year, or any other year, of your Rock Castle match Matt.

In mid March I have to attend a Board of Directors meeting in Florida.

Mid March is also my birthday.

The BoD meeting always seems to be scheduled on the Friday nearest my birthday.

Blondzilla and I spend a week or at least a long weekend in Florida in Mid March connected to this BoD meeting which is exactly when you do your KY R&G.

While you guys are shooting in my back yard, I will be shooting FALs that Sunday morning with eyeguy and rbgonoles in FL like I do every March. Sunning my buns in the aftnoons, drinking heavily, and dancing the night away with Blondzilla will constitute the rest of the long weekend

On a completely unrelated and completely coincidental note, I am the one who schedules the mid March BoD meeting, which just accidently happens to be in FL, near my birthday, and has been so every year, for over two decades, and Blondzilla likes it that way!

ETA: I think last year you missed the BoD but conflicted with a project start-up the week after in Mid March. Can you move this shoot to July? I am usually home most of that month.

I like the way you think, sir! We'll catch you next time, and try not to screw up your backyard too badly while we're here.

Note on the Halfling's Weigh-in:

His scale was/is off by about seven d@mn pounds. Last fall I was weighing around 193-195lbs for about two weeks prior and was verified on three different scales (2 digital and 1 calibrated classic scale at the Base gym). Stepped on that thing with just shorts on and it read 204lbs. So the ratio for what I needed "to finish" the match with was a bit higher! Plan for this!

I point out the "finish with" weight because one must account for loss of weight during run from ammo, sweat, and drinking expenditures!

As long as I can get my ballast weight sorted out then yeah I'm planning on combat both days. I can't do a chest plate rig bc I use an H harness to hold up my belt, so I'm using the plasma cutter at work to cut some steel plate to put in some AR pouches.

And yeah, just using my RNG AR....223. Boring, soulless black mouse gun I am sorry to disappoint. It is slightly more exciting at the moment bc the sear has worn out so I found out it is now an auto. LOL. Hiperfire EDT trigger due in tomorrow so I'll swap that out and test this weekend.

Stupid weight vest.

Stupid burpees.

Stupid 'Combat class'.

I may switch to the P226 since I am no longer trying to save any weight. It's only another 15 lbs.

I need to try that on the thigh rig to see how weird that is, Eowyn does it...gotta be a good idea. That would get me another rifle mag on the chest rig. I hate taking molle apart.

Stupid chest rig.

I am grinning ear to ear from all of your posts. This could not have developed any better if I had planned it.

More good news:

Prize details are rolling in! Yesterday's was from ASE Precision. They are providing certificates for their holsters so you can get exactly the model you need to fit your gear. We'll have 6 competition holster certificates and 3 EDC holster certificates for a total value of $807.00. In addition to that, Dustin Downard will have a full competition set (competition holster, 2 pistol mag carriers, and one rifle mag carrier) that will be randomly drawn for from all those that actually hit the target on his obstacle.

Did I mention Dustin was awarded the 2016 "Holster Making Champion" award from Knifekits.com? This dude is an artist with kydex -

Dayum, I sure wish I could make it as a spectator. This is only 3Ĺ hours from my home town.

And for those that care, I will be bringing this to Stimpy's RNG in 3 weeks.

Just have Jeff make you a holster! What can go wrong!

He modified that, if he'd have made it it would have worked.

He just sometimes makes bad equipment decisions...like cryo'd barrels and such.

He's got a damn pretty beard though.

That is pure gold.

1. I thank you for that, and I like to think that this is true.

2. I don't thank you for that - as the "custom rifle" event (x 2) is one of the sorest spots in my money-spending life. Do you know that that sonofabitch didn't even have the common decency to: a) send back the Remington take-off barrel (we agreed he would) and b) pay the return shipping on the shit he didn't do correctly in the first place - more than once? I think I have almost $400 in SHIPPING sunk into those two pieces of poop. Totally unimportant to the tale generally speaking, but I've never had a barrel (or anything else) in the cryo treatment.

3. Right? You're a real friend, Bruce. Thanks for noticing.

It's like he knows how to push your buttons or something, and then how to compliment your beard at then end to make it all OK.

I am SO looking forward to having this crew back together again!

Prize table surprise: a competitor reached out to me yesterday who does BEAUTIFUL leatherwork and pledged an AR mag pouch with a certificate for a holster and a pistol mag pouch to fit your choice of weapon. It looks like George Johnson (https://www.facebook.com/george.johnsoniv.5) is your man if you want to have some leatherwork done - thanks George!

Ironically, that thigh rig I won for "high lady" at the FAL match was for a 226! I use a Blackhawk serpa for my XDM, I love it. I get a lot of hate on it (esp at the sniper match, so many dudes were like OHH YOURE GONNA HATE THAT im like uhh no already run a jillion miles in it lol). It works for me, sooo.

More reminders for newbies:

You will need EYE and EAR PROTECTION for this match. Yes, running with glasses on sucks. Either deal with it, or take the extra time to take your glasses off when you run and put them on before you shoot. We just have too many opportunities for ricochets and plenty of loud noises to let this go. If you show up to a shooting stage without eye and ear protection you will not be allowed to shoot and receive a zero score for the stage.

You will also need a STOPWATCH of some sort. There's a good chance when you run up to a stage there will be someone shooting there already (and quite possibly a line of people waiting to shoot). At that point, the RO will tell you to start your wait time. Start your stopwatch, and let it run until it's your turn to move forward. During your wait time you are NOT allowed to sit, take off your gear, eat, drink, or do anything but just stand there exactly as you ran up - it's like a "timeout" and it should not give you any advantage over those who didn't have a wait time.

We will miss you for sure!!!

Why not just carry extra ammo instead of steel plates?

Also, after having been on a hiatus the last few days, this is awesome.

Hey el Tirge,

I will not be around home between now and this RC shoot, but if you will be over my way between now and then, I will have a couple jars of oops, I mean a couple of home-made apple pies set out for you to take down for the group

No pressure to do so from me though bro

Takes up too much space. Already figuring 4 loaded AR mags and 5 loaded double stack 9mm mags. Makes more sense to put 3 lbs of steel into each one of the remaining three mag pouches vs finding extra places to put mags at @ 1lb each.

This is assuming I can get all of it to work. If it's going to be a big PITA I'll say screw it and flop back to race category
