I don't know why the finger got raised and I'm going to stay out of it.

Has the drift on the range road melted yet?

I don't know why Dave's grader has no brakes but I imagine you brake with the blade and the clutch. Maybe use gears on public roads and try to stay off them.

That's how I brake my backhoe. I don't know Dave's story but I will tell you mine.

About 5 years ago I was asked to bury 2 dead horses and a cow, all within a month or so. The cow had been laying in the sun for over a week and was a real doozy. At least the horses were fresh, but came with other special challenges via the owners.

Shortly afterward the brakes quit working on my backhoe. They are still not fixed and I have no intention of doing so.

"Nope sorry, the brakes are not working on my backhoe so I can't take it on the road or leave my farm"

Did that cow look like an over inflated balloon?
Don't they have renderers over there in Kentucky? We out here just send 'em to the renderers where they melt 'em down and make stuff out of 'em.

Yes it did and yes we do

Somehow this particular farmer felt that this cow needed buried and I have a tough time saying "no" when friends need a favor that I can provide. Having no brakes however is a public safety issue so I can honestly say "sorry" and I do not have a need for them on my own farm

The issues with the horses (really the one horse in particular) were worse. I will tell you about it over a beer in WA

I have plenty of stories with Backhoes, large dead critters, Other heavy equipment, even one or two that include rendering trucks (never allow a towing outfit to bring a rendering truck to your shop in July for a clutch job)

Just flipping my brother some $hit.

Made it in with my pickup Friday and will check it tomorrow. It should be about gone by now.

It's a 1947 AC AD-3 with a 3-71 Detroit. It has Wagner electric brakes that they only used for 2 or 3 years (I wonder why?) and parts are made of some special material called "unobtainium". I'm reluctant to put any money into it because if one unobtainable part breaks, it's done. Oh, and you ain't gonna be shiftin' no gears on the fly in this beast. If you are careful you can get it in forward and reverse at the same time.

Is that a problem? Seems to me you could get the job done twice as fast.

But I don't know much about heavy equipment.

WABCO scrapers, Wabco being an acronym for "Westinghouse Airbrake Company"... used Wagner electric brakes. Go figure. Having been around the Wabcos most of my life, I've only seen 2 with semi functional brakes. Nothing like having a 140,000 LB machine carrying 100,000 LBS of dirt in it with no brakes. You did a lot of dragging with the blade on steep stuff. I remember drag trails 10 feet or more deep coming off steep cuts.

I remember trying to sneak some ducks in a cut cornfield and when I got to the edge of the field to the main ditch I tried to cross it real sneaky without looking down much and there was one of those big bloated cows in the bottom. I barely dodged putting my boot in the center of it. Whew.

I'm up for that. Gotta have one team that actually volunteers for last place.

FWIW-I consider aiming at the bulls-eye but hitting 6" off of it to be pretty fancy trick shooting

Hey Rob, supposed to have a sunny day this weekend. If so, I'll be wringing your new toy out to set the sights for you.

This is kind of expensive.

If Jason can get some for $.60/rd, i'd take him up on it, if I was you.

I just bought 2400 rds of 7.62mm and it was $.50/rd.

Also looks like CMP still has some but you might not get it in time for the Spring thing.

Is she still shooting that anachronism 30-06 or has she upgraded to something proper like .308?

If .308 I can donate some to the cause. It will be Garand safe but I ain't guaranteeing how accurate it is
She already outshoots me sooooo......
