Those are some excellent shorts!

I don't think I have the guts to wear anything that could compete with that.

Hate to break it to you, but it is a pretty good bet that I will be wearing shorts.

I won't have the sex appeal of Jimmy or Kelly, and certainly won't even be in the same league as Danie

If I were good looking like Top Nuttz, I suppose I’d do a beefcake photo Op with a dozen or so FALs, but I’m like, not.

Speaking of-there’s also an awesome and somewhat famous pic of a female posing with Stimpy’s Israeli mutt FAL. You might want to think twice about it if Stimpy asks you to “pose” with his FAL.

I've been reading this site since 2003. I have never seen nor heard of this event.

You can tell he was distracted just thinking about the event. Missed a whole important word.

Her name was Isis - before ISIS was a bad thing. So Stimp basically supplied arms to Isis.

Everything has a price.

I, for one, am glad that girls, guns, and moonshine are still inextricably intertwined in the 21st century.

Oh.

I remember that. But I don't remember from where. I was never on the blue board, but the Files have undergone several changes over the years.

Not too much. I had actually seen it before (round here somewhere I suppose). Definitely GTG and would make for a good T-Shirt IMHO! It would be like a 1970s trucker or cheep beer (like PBR or Stroh's) advert shirt, me thinks!

Yes, stimpy is above board when it comes to his matches. Last years FAL Match shirt is an example. I loved the artwork but not being a big fan of JRRT, I didn't pick up on that theme. I thought it was from this time period where EVERYBODY carried a FAL or L12A1.

It wasn't until the after match debrief that I found out I was far out in left field. Never picked up on the references in the many previous posts.

You couldn't get the other leg up? That would have made it epic!

You and Lisa planned that, right?

Purely a spontaneous and unplanned preemptive attack. Wife is off frame to my right and crying laughing from the surprise. Louis (I think?) was super quick with the camera, and Jimmy's reaction was genius and geniune, because I lost track of how many Irish Whiskys he'd had by then.

And not surprising at all.

From the times I have shot the RBGC FAL match and from the stories I have heard from past events, it seems that every year someone (or several someones) will have a failure of either hardware or skills. One example I will use is myself last year. I had my riFAL dialed in perfectly and shot it even more just a few days before the match. I babied it, no hard known bumps in handling or cleaning, transported it in a quality hard case to the match. On the first of the 16 steel plates of stage #1 it became quite apparent it would not hit anything. After wasting a mag or more of ammo I finally determined it was hitting about a foot to the right and a foot and a half high. WTF???

I have seen others with what they felt were perfectly tuned and tested riFALs that on match day would not feed, would not eject, mags would fall out, etc. At least one person I recall shot their entire 30 rounds of the target stage at the wrong numbered target and have heard numerous stories of other shooter made SNAFUs. Everyone I have witnessed who experienced one of these equipment or personal SNAFUs took them in stride with calm grace and a commitment to "do better next year". This I find extremely admirable and it shows what a great bunch of folks we have in and around the files. I think this type of "unconquerable spirit" deserves an award.

For those who don't know, the word Invictus is Latin for unconquerable. I personally got it from an old David Allen Coe album, but it was really made famous in the late nineteenth century by the English author William Ernest Henley and his poem of the same name.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

This is to be a revolving trophy, only held for one year, then returned for the winner at the next year's match. The winner each year to be determined by the group, by nomination & vote during the regular awards at the end. The nameplate on the trophy is generic so the winner can tell their friends how it was won (or not), but it will be a reminder to the winner to come back, do better next year, and to be UNCONQUERABLE. With much respect, I offer you the "Invictus Award".

I can only take credit for the idea and the assembly. In fact this trophy is a falfiles team effort.

Yellowhand - Paul donated the base which is made from an L1A1 stock. He inserted 3 wooden dowels in the bottom so it sits flat without rocking.

Gunplumber - Mark donated the butt plate, sling swivel, and associated hardware. In addition, he sent us a couple of his FAL gunsmithing CD/workbooks as well as some ARS T-shirts for the prize table.

APEXPARTS - Richard donated a de-miled FAL barrel. I cut out the middle section with the gas-block and sling ring / bi-pod machining and used it for the riser.

The Gman - George donated an 80% FAL receiver for only the cost of shipping which I made into the "head piece".

Thank you all gents

Lastly, I am ordering another small name plate to read "RBGC annual FAL Match" to be sized to cover up the CAI stamping, otherwise it is now completed.

That turned out very nicely indeed. Glad to have been able to help and hope one day to make it out there for the shoot.
