M2 in reserve.

Was out in the garage setting up a few new jack posts so I had to take a photo of some of my M2 sitting in reserve.

Nice ammo Art, but I was expecting one of these.

Thanks Art, I love posts like that. I can show the photo to the wife and say "look at this baby, see I barely have a good starter kit"

Rgr on that. That is just some of the M2. There is plenty of other ammo in greater quantity available around the hacienda.

Quantity has its own quality...

I've got enough ammo to last the rest of my lifetime.

Art, I think you have more 30-06 than you are likely to shoot in your lifetime.

I agree. That photo is only a fraction of the 06 stash. Just working next to it and took the photo for anyone interested this morning.

If you're into obsolete cartridges, I suppose that's a good starting point.

But I've never considered less than 10k to be any more than a reserve.

LC National match 30.06

Well, I have about 5880 LC National match ammo 30.06 left. Then I have about 20,000 rounds of once fired LC 30.06 match brass left. Time to fire up the old Dillon 550 and start reloading again especially since I have 32 pounds of LC powder left.

This makes 2 days in a row that the adjective *moldering* was used around here...interesting.

Can't say I've seen an Art Banks photo that I didn't like.

Nice stack.

And FWIW, I was just playing. In re-reading my posts, I can see how those who didn't see the Cigar and Stone IPA in my hand, might think I was being sour.

Little stacks of ammo like yours are always a good thing. Even if it is an obsolete caliber far surpassed by 7.62 NATO.

So a bullet that weighs less and is moving slower is better?

Good to know.

Yes, longer range, flatter trajectory. That's what happens when you improve the bullet design from spitzer to boat tail.

Amazing how a few boxes of ammo can get a controversy started here among folks with differing thoughts.
I shoot this stuff from obsolete rifles that I enjoy because obsolete 7.62 x 51, 7.62x39 and most other ammo doesn't fit properly, not that I have tried.
I love how any topic , during hot weather, is like throwing a new rooster into the middle of a cock fight.
Whatta hobby.

So put the same weight bullet/design in a cartridge with greater capacity and it still out preforms it.

The 06 has killed Germans in 2 world wars. Killed a metric shit ton of communists and has served longer than the failed 308 M-14 battle rifle that only lasted a few years.

The US failed miserably at 308 weapons design, and the free world is still paying for it today.

A 6.5x51 would have been a much better choice. Good thing SOCOM is just now adopting it.

True, and completely irrelevant, since he isn't stacking custom handloaded ammo - it is USGI BALL .30-06. Which is outperformed by USGI BALL 7.62 NATO. As I stated.

Actually, he was lumbering away from me while I was taking photos and I don't think he cared much for my clapping my hands to get him to turn for a mug shot.
