The new batch of R1 receivers as I have posted before are done right, copied off the original and time correctly to make a home build a little easier, I know not everyone can be made happy but for those that like different markings I have replicated the original ones and given them a unique serial number range, at the very least I did this for selfish reasons, I wanted one.

There may be a few exceptions, as there are always when speaking FAL, but the vast majority of the RSA R1's never had a crest (if any did). All the original R1's I've seen photos of have had rough machining in the lightening area of the magwell anyway. There are photos of completely drilled through magwells, with the mag showing through the hole! None I've seen photos of (and none spoken of by veterans on this board or the New Rhodesian) have mentioned crests on anything other than the FN contract FAL's. I've seen a few different serial number schemes on FAL's that came into the US from Africa, but never an original, Pretoria applied, ZA. I'd love to see photos of that. That would upset all the Zambia/Zimbabwe arguments for sure! I'm not intentionally trying to give you a hard time, but the information you're putting out is different from what I've learned over the years, from original photos, the surplus we've gotten here in the US, and from veterans of the SADF and the Rhodesian Security Forces. It would be great to have another accurate R1 receiver!

The R1 with crest was never exported hence the rough finish in that mag area, some where never applied in the first place, some were, some never had serial numbers and some had all the marks ground off, I can only attest to what I have seen. Dsa was one of the importers of Rhodesian fals and other parts and I just got to handle the batch that came into South Africa so I have a pretty good idea what a receiver from that era should look like but have added some markings that would have been ground off. It make not be perfect in every way but a former South African brought it to life and supervised it's production.

But to answer your question I am trying to replicate the style of markings from the R 1 type not the FN contract. I have seen rifles drilled and ground, this was often an indication of stolen guns or guns given to opposition parties like Inkatha freedom party against the ANC , I was in the police and recovered many of these and G3 rifles that had this treatment.

That looks really good. I wish I had a Rhodi to use one on.
