Funny how December 21st (?) 2012 Mayan calendar talk has pretty much dried up. I wonder why? In the past stuff like this would run right up to the date but this subject seems to have dried up.

Last I heard was that another whole new calendar was found that begins in 2012. Kinda sticks a fork in the whole "end of the world" rumors.

I think right now people are more concerned with the 2012 election calendar. Both calendars have the potential to end the same.

NHBandit hit it. National Geographic did a great story on the uncovering of a scholar's cave/vault/temple showing multiple calendars, one picking up where another leaves off. That was 8 months ago?

Well all I can say is that there are a few micro brewerys making "end of the world" concoctions and that's really more than enough evidence for me. At least the 21st of December is a Friday so I'll be able to take full advantage of the new brews.

Actually I recently heard that scientists were off by 45 days in interpeting the calendar. So the world will end 45 days before December 21st. Some quick math tells us the world will end on November 6th...

That is good news. All the fuss is over a gross misinterpretation. The Mayans "predicted" all kinds of coming events, some as far a 4000 A.D.. The concern that 21 DEC 12 will be the end is pure media-hype BS. Unfortunately, some folks are believing it's going to be the end.

What I always found funny is the lack of information regarding a little known fact. When the Spanish conquistadors found many of the Mayan ruins, they found volumes and volumes of written and recorded information. When they began to interpret the info back in Spain, the church said it was blasphemy and destroyed most of records. So for anyone to claim anything regarding anything Mayan is just plain ignorant. Like someone said Mayan followers should attach themselves to a passing commit and enjoy the short lived journey.
