Found a new K98

So back in August I stopped into a little pawn shop/ gun store that I have passed by without ever stopping into it. I didn't see anything really interesting, but I have learned to ask if they have any old military or bolt action rifles in the back. The lady working there brought me this from the back of the shop. She said this one has been back there for years, because you can't get ammo for it any more. Lol. I started to haggle over the price....then started seeing the matching numbers and markings and just pulled out my wallet. Sorry for the bad pictures. I took them with my cell phone in the parking lot.

I haven't really kept up with Mauser values lately. What are these going for now?

Dave

And they deal in guns. Great score! Should have seen how low they would go, just for fun and to get it cheaper (it being a pawn shop and not some old lady).

Mauser

You definitely stole it. That's a nice early war. Value is definitely north of $800.

225 for what appears to be a matching Sauer k98? Wow, go buy a lotto ticket. You should post detailed pics on k98kforum.com as well. They'll be able to give you a good estimate.

Actually, very nice. Once I got it cleaned up, I was pleasantly surprised. Some minor pitting at the muzzle. It has definitely been shot, but not worn out.

So, were you able to find any ammo?

Nice find!

May be worth checking to see if it is stolen though. Pawn Shops are sketchy as hell, and there may be a reason it's been sitting back there for so long.

"...May be worth checking to see if it is stolen though...."

Why? If you can honestly say you didn't know it was stolen, and point to the pawn shop with your receipt, the police will hassle them. Yes, you will lose the rifle, but have a claim against the shop.
