1911A1 tells a sad tale.

This series of photos shows a Colt 1911A1 recovered after one of the major battles of WW2 ... the left side is in near pristine condition ... the right side tells a sadder tale. The gun is pockmarked with multiple shrapnel hits. Leather from the holster was impacted into some of the holes. The man who carried this 1911 into battle is unknown but it is inconceivable he survived the blast. My father survived a horrendous injury from an artillery attack so these photos gave me chills.
