VEPR

Gents,

I got a buddy who might sell me a stock factory vepr, 16in barrel and non threaded, wood stock they come with...do i need to do a whole lot to get it to run regular AK mags, or a bullet guide? not sure the thinking to convert it to a regular ak?? i always thought they just used ak mags.

x39?

If stock import gun and not the old what Robbersion arms or the such guns

You need to put in a bullet guide and also file down the mag catch for it to work

I think the barrel is threaded with a thread cover on it .

As factory they wont take normal mags due to import laws

Note also depeding on how the stock is mounted you will difernt stock mounting issues ..Ditto handguards

ya its a 39. bullet guide and a mag catch, hmmm... seems like i could od that. it has the slanted rear so i would need to get the krebs adapter, then any stock works. I have wanted a russian for a while, i think it will be worth the time. And you are right it has threads and a cap..thanks

My mag catch is just filed down a bit on my VEPR and it locks in surplus mags without issue. There's a complete kit in the akfiles marketplace that will do everything to convert except the bullet guide I think. I was thinking about buying it but a Norinco spiker has been offered to me so now I've gotta reevaluate my gun fund.

Having been there and done that-- Arsenal 107 all the way. Lighter weight, and will be closer to what you actually desire in the end. Veprs are sweet, but are overweight IMO. Especially for x39 work.

I agree with the weight. Even more so with 5.45. Fit and finish is far better on the VEPR compared to the 107 though. Just depends upon what is the most important to you and what you're looking to get out of the rifle.

Although, I would take a WASR over the 107. I don't see the extra cost on the 107 being worth it. Unless it's a 107FR or CR of course. Hit the WASR with appliance epoxy and you have paint over park just like a 107. Just mho of course.

Don't you have to relocate the trigger on the VEPR if you want to make a std AK out of it?

Depends. The 2017 WASR I have is fantastic. Surprisingly accurate. However, it's not much to look at out of the cardboard box. Took a bit of cash to replace the furniture and top cover. And, I do prefer the side-folder on the 107FR myself. Even though I'm not traditionally big on folding stocks. Also, coatings = time and money. Especially when done correctly. Just depends on what price you are paying for each, and your level of commitment/intentions. And, what actual model of 107 we're actually talking about?

FWIW-- the only VEPR I would have a difficult time saying no to is a Robinson Arms VEPR II. Shockingly stunning. Especially when converted nicely. Either updated, or with Russian style red.

My favorite Vepr, but then again, it's mine. Vepr in 5.45 with Rhineland arms furniture w/homemade stain.

Thanks, shoots as good as it looks.

Also own the Arsenal SLR-107CR. The finish on the Arsenal is nowhere near as pretty as the finish on the Vepr, but the Arsenal folder is a very handy truck gun and it make a good resting place for a Kobra gunsite. Maybe someday it will get cut and crowned as an SBR. Then I'd have another weapon to hang the 7.62 Saker off of.
