If you fly with a rolly carry on....

You are a dick.

Carry on.

Apparently you've never had to get on a train after
getting off of a plane.

Guess I'm a dick then. I refuse to pay extra to check my bags and all three pieces of luggage I own have wheels.

Build a bridge, get over it.

I'd rather be a dick than a pussy, not that that has any bearing on the "problem"

I’d argue that using rolly bags of any kind is a prime indicator of being a pussy. If you can’t carry it, well then....

Just use a backpack, like a man. But if you are too infirm to do that, then at least don’t pretend to be surprised when it doesn’t fit in the overhead while you diva up the entire boarding process.

They are the appropriate tool for the job. Is your problem really with wheeled carryon bags? Or is it with oversized bags in general?

Airline bag policy is a large part of the problem.

How do you drag one so that it does not hit you in the ass?
Very frustrating.

And considering how careless people are lugging bags in general, at least a roller keeps the offending bag behind them instead of smashing people and things on either side.

Airline policy is bullshit, no doubt. But it is what it is.

It’s more the drip dicks cramming 20 gallons of crap into a 5 gallon bag and then stopping the whole works as they grunt & wrestle with their rolly trying to get it in the overhead that it is never going to fit in....because it’s overstuffed (the bag)...then they look helplessly back for a way to go back, and then they try again in vain futility while myself and the rest of the flight stand there waiting for the rolly conniption to end with a flight attendant squeezing through the packed aisle to assist the sissy that was so clever to game the system by carrying on their entire wardrobe and saving $30. Bravo.

These boners only seem happen with rolly-toters. I fly a lot, and I don’t own luggage with wheels. Mostly because I’m a man, but also because I’m heterosexual.

I used to fly...... a lot. Not so much anymore. My suggestion to speed the boarding and de-planing process; charge $50 per carry on and allow checked bags for free. See how many freeloaders carry on then.

So do you carry heavy boxes and appliances without a dolly, just so people don't think you are less than manly?

It goes with their "murse", Melty!!

I always think we should work smarter....not harder! Why the heck I would want to carry or drag a bag when I can roll it is beyond me.

BTW, I am not trying to excuse those who carry a 40" bag on a plane and try to stuff it into a overhead of a CRJ...much less then a 737....

I donít fly with heavy boxes or appliances. If you canít ruck it, chuck it is my point. You can have all the wheels you want on your checked bags. My bitch is with the tools that roll bags too big for carry on as carry on.

Itís okay if you use wheels. Iím sure your skinny jeans and hair products are too heavy to carry all by yourself. I suppose some of yíall are more Depends and Rogaine than skinny jeans and hair product though, huh?

Oh remember when...they used to have those little things with the signs that said "Your carry on must fit in here"?

Leave the damn steamer trunks and 15 zipper expandable bags at home.

This. And it comes from a fellow who flies extensively. Too many tards trying to bring every goddarn thing they own into the plane.

Jebus it is just a 60 minute flight, do you really need a neck pillow, blanket, bag of snacks and three forms of entertainment? How the f do you watch TV successfully?

Another idea would be $20 a bag to check and $40 to gate check if you want to gamble on rolling on the plane. I don't get why gate check is free, it screws up getting through security with all the dipshats who forgot the water bottle, baby bottle or whatever and hold everyone up.

I try real hard to avoid bringing a bag at all beyond my 3day pack I use for a computer bag. As long as my trip is less than 4 days, I skip the suitcase.

What if one uses a wheeled bag but identifies as a backpack carrier?

Ha!

I agree about people trying to stuff a huge bag in the overhead compartment.

Iím too old to wear skinny jeans and too young to wear depends, and I still have all of my hair although there is a little gray in it. Iíve lifted weights most of my life so carrying something heavy isnít a problem, but I agree that using wheels to work smarter rather than harder is the way to go. You knuckle dragging, sloped forehead Neanderthals can keep hauling your stuff around on your backs all you want. 😛

Agreed, but if you do, take it off and carry it down the aisle in your hand.

If you walk down the aisle and smack everyone you pass sitting in an aisle seat with your back pack swinging around, then you are a double dick.

Carry on.

I used to think it looked rather "girly" to pull a suitcase in rollers.

Then I got old. Now I don't think it looks so girly. And if it does, I really don't give a shit anymore.

I call those "turtles". They spin around looking for God know what and assault 3 people with the backpack in the process. After being hit by one such "double" dick in the aisle last year, I grabbed and held him by the pack, and suggested that hitting one more unsuspecting person would not end well for him. I'm not a big guy but then again, the packer looked like a liberal arts grad with a democratic voters card in his pocket. Game on.

Fiancťe and I (she flies 3-5 times a monthly currently) are thinking about writing a short book on the trials and tribulations of air travel and travelers. We've got about 15 chapters roughed out so far.

True. And for any given metric half the population is below average, so you will find yourself well represented & in good company!

I retract my stupid thread comment and replace it with stoopid thread comment. I was feeling fractious last night.

But now that I think about it, the folks rolling their carryon in front of them are more safe than us folks with our backpacks still on. Lot less risk of face slap going on that way. So I'll take roller baggers over face slappers.

Real men communicate by chiseling words into granite and marble and delivering their messages on the back of an ass. Real men don't use the internet.

Same as real men only carry their carry-ons on their backs.

SOME people use the tool that the job requires.

Thatís why you take your backpack off right as you board and hold it in front of you so you are prepared to load into overhead without any turtle/backpack drama. Itís the right thing to do. Double-win for backpackers.

By the way, if any of you rolly-hoes see a guy carrying his own bags (sans wheels) at an airport stop him to shake his hand and thank him for being the model American male he is. He may even buy you a beer, but really your rolly-ass should be offering to buy him one. He may even talk FALs with you, especially if the bag he carries is a red Northface base camp bag that looks like itís been around a bit.

Just use a backpack, like a man. But if you are too infirm to do that, then at least donít pretend to be surprised when it doesnít fit in the overhead while you diva up the entire boarding process.
Guess you do not need business clothes when you arrive, I don't check because my bags get "lost" temporally several times a year. I fly a lot (75k+ miles domestically), so pretty much most weeks. I get 2 bags free domestically and 3 free international from my status on the airline, and still do not check. I pack a weeks worth of stuff in a roller bag because it works and I know my dress clothes will be there when I arrive. So tough luck, I will keep using mine because stuffing a suit in a backpack is pretty much stupid.

A layover and change of planes at DFW will make you a wheel man. Whoever planned that mess should be shot. And no I don't own a wheel bag, I check my luggage.

I flew 183,000 miles in 2018 and have been Diamond status on Delta since it's inception on 2010.
A million miles on USAir and TWA before I switched to Delta.
This year or early in 2020 I will hit two million miles on Delta alone.

I check one bag every trip. Same bag. Every trip.
This week was 3 nights in TX. Next trip is 3 weeks in South Africa. Same bag.
Delta has lost my bag overnight maybe 5 times in the past 10 years, always on the way home on Friday night and they delivered it to the house the next morning.

I carry-on two laptops, my Kindle, and a few miscellaneous bits in my back pack.

Some of the carry-ons I seen people use really push the size limit! Some people have so much stuff they fill most of the overhead compartment.

All of my luggage is green. Many years ago I used ubiquitous black but too many times watched people walk off with my bag or had to have the airline chase down the moron who left with my luggage. Then I took a brand new set of luggage and painted bright yellow stripes on the bags. Finally I went with green and no more problems. Iím on my second set of green and have never had another flyer take my bag.

Delta has lost my bag 3 times in the last 2 years, twice on the outbound leg. Once it got to the hotel by the next morning and the other time it took 4 days for them to find it. I am also diamond on Delta (from segments not miles, did 143 segments last year). I find that internationally I have never had an issue. Most times no i just carry on, so no issue.

I suspect your primary hub is Detroit while mine is Atlanta, which probably explains the different experiences with Delta.

When American bought TWA and switched my hub from St Louis to Chicago O'Hare is when I moved primarily to flying on Delta. In three decades of travel, I do not think I ever successfully connected though O'Hare without a lost bag or canceled/delayed flight. Chicago O'Hare's only redeeming feature is that it is marginally better than Paris CDG.

Well my Northface bag has been around the world and is the closest thing to waterproof of any baggage I have seen, which is important to me since my baggage goes places your domesticated luggage wouldn’t survive a few transfers. If you think that’s faggy, then good for you. I need bags that functions in all kinds of adverse environments from Alaska’s North Slope to offshore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and more. Northface does that for me very well for several years now—without wheels.

Where’s your rolly bag been while my faggy Northface bag has been out there Making America Great Again?

I may have overstated it. Not everyone with Northface stuff is a fag, but every fag has Northface stuff

Actually I understand your point. I've gotten on planes and laugh my ass off when people bring on roller bags that are too big and then have to check it at the gate. I have a small one. It's a Jeep logo so I look like a badass with it.

The best thing about a carry on is if you get to the airport and want to go standby on another flight to get out earlier, it's much better. I did a lot of international travel up until about 5 years ago. Held platinum status so a little better. India, Middle East, China, SE Asia. I don't miss it one bit. Especially now these days with the slugs that get on planes. Hell even gold status probably gets you nowhere these days.

Iíve flown with a North Face backpack since 2003. Sure I look like a hipster as a 37-year old with a backpack but I like to have my hands free and I will not check a bag. Ive checked bags twice in my 37 years, once to New Orleans and once to Scotland and on the NO trip they lost my bag...so Iím 50%...never again.
