Lil help.

So I've posted my assembled rhoadie here in this thread. I've got better pics now but can't load them(tech-tarded). Here's the low down. Belguim proofed barrel no serial number(replacement I'm assuming) SA lower w/ RA roll mark(no poop),metal bipod cut hand guards and bi bod, RA electro pencil bolt, crossed flags proof on the carrier, non matching. To park or not to park? I read on here originally, they were parked then painted black. Should I re-finish her and then pick up a paint kit and re poop her? All input welcome. Oh yeah not quite correct, she sitting w/an imbel gl type three. I also have a partial kit w/ all kinds of poop that I want to slap a 1.5 receiver and make as accurate as I can. What say the rabble?

Here is mine . It started out as an ugly imbel / franken fal , had crappy dsa furniture , Coonan receiver and a few nice parts . Thanks to many of you I got a few great rhody parts, great rhody stock and handguards and pg from Dashaus . even the touch up paint came from here . I think it turned out well . I thank all that helped me with information and parts . All together I have 1068.00 into it .

While I was painting my DSA receiver to match on my Rhodie. My carry gun, a Springfield XDsc, was sitting next to me waiting to be cleaned when I finished. I thought about Rhodie painting that up but didn't in the end. But the thought crossed my mind!

Bipod on a Rhodie?

So ive got my Rhodie... Yet it has a belguim proofed barrel w/ out a serial number. Yet, it's bipod cut. I also picked up some nice beat up hgs from wildcard out of SA w/ some poop on them, and they're bipod cut too. Speaking w/ a member here I was told that was typical of a replacement barrel... If I could email some pics could somebody repost them here for me. (Techtarded). Thanks in advance

Proofs? All SA? Please comment

Thanks to Jeff for posting the pics of my Rhodie, and the next project Rhodie parts. Today I'm meeting up w/ genethepoolcleaner. He's reaching out to help go through my completed riFAL and get her running like a clock. He has been a huge help and I'm looking forward to learning from him. Piece by piece, when the money is available I will twist that next Rhodie up(w/dougs help of course). Now I've got the sickness... Thanks guys... I feel a para coming on...

Very nice Rhodie Afeod. I just finished up one of mine that I pieced together. The paint is all original except for the barrel, upper, and topcover. I have 4 more Rhodie kits to build. Two of them have no baby poop, one of which has been refinished, and one with a Halbeck device. I think I will build them as is - poop free. The other two have a lot of poop remaining, one of which is the best lower I have seen in a long time in terms of remaining original paint. So those two will be poop painted as well.

Here is the one I just finished....

Rhodie re-done!!! Mo betta!!! Genethepoolcleaner is the man!

Before:

Not a bad start. Mostly SA/ Rhodie. Some stg parts. I got together w/genethepoolcleaner. He let me know that he could go through it and dial her in a bit. Holy smokes. The work he put into this riFAL is amazing! I was able to head over to his shop today. Let me tell you, top notch. After a bit of chatting and drooling... Off to the range.
After:

I'm so happy with the end product. The grenade ladder site is just cool. The nbc handguards feel much better in my hand. I love the SA long stock too, let alone the fine repark. Now thanks to Doug, I'm the proud owner of a beautifully finished(and shooting) South African. I'm looking forward to learning much more, and already have another Rhodie plan in the works... This time a BFPU.

That is a sweet looking Rhodie RiFAL AFeod

Here's my Rhodie kit on a DSA Type 2. Got another Rhodie in the works. Not sure whether I want to poop on this one just yet.

Nice! I just priced a coonan r1 and I've put some stuff up on the mp to fund the purchase. I was just curious as to quality difference between dsa and coonan, facilitating a less problematic build.

Wondering...

Did SA ever put out an 18" barreled FAL? I know the few paras I've seen had 21" barrels

As far as I know SA never built any 18" barreled R1s. That being said, there are a few photos of FNs, possibly R1 "types," or other FAL variants with shortened barrels. I read somewhere that they were called "Trackers" and were used by trackers who were hot on the trail of the terrorists. Can't remember where I read that, might have been this site, a decade ago.

I can't remember if any shortened FNs were used by the paras, but if they were, most likely they would have had the standard stock and not the Para stock.

Thanks for the info. My current Rhodie has the standard 21" barrel. GTPC is putting another together for me. This time BFPU style as opposed to the super purty last Rhodie. I was just kicking around the idea of shorting the barrel.

First off, AFeod and rbgonoles your rifles look great. I am working on one new poop build and redoing my first Rhodie build, changing out the stock set and repainting the upper to match. After those are completed the next Rhodies I build will be poop paint free. They will look similar to yours.

And apologies guys for taking so long to get back about the flash hider. I have I think three of these all bought at different times from different sources. I honestly don't know where they originated and I'm not sure if they are homemade or factory. I have one on my Rhodie shorty too.....

SA never made short-barreled rifles. But they did purchase small amounts of rifles with 18" barrels from FN separately from their large contracts with FN. Some of their FALs look like they may have been cut down in-country, some looking like they might be under 16" (about as short as you can get and still screw on the combo device). All of the shorter rifles I've seen in pictures or videos were police rifles, but it wouldn't surprise me if some special troops used them.

Two questions... I've got a "scrubbed" SA barrel for this next build. Most parts on in are "sanitized". Would it be sacrilege to cut it down to 18"? Next: hey Rick you wouldn't wanna get rid of that third cool muzzle device would ya? What say the rabble?

I am working on the build and paint on the middle rifle. I still have some parts that need to be installed and test fired. The paint is original on everything except the upper and barrel. This lower has the best original paint of any I think I have seen and certainly of any that I have owned. Thank you to ljspoon for agreeing to trade me for this beauty. It has at least three different colors. I was able to match almost perfectly the olive green color at Sherwin Williams. In the bottom photo you can see the lower is original paint and the upper I painted yesterday. What say yee on this match. I have a quart of this paint so I am thinking of selling some in the market as soon as I can find some small bottles. I will never in a million years use up a quart of this paint. So if you want some let me know. I don't want to make a bunch of money off of it but just enough to make it worth my time as I more into sharing than profit. Here is the paint code for it if you want to roll your own.

I am going to call it olive green. It is color c.

Sherwin Williams - All Surface Enamel - Oil Based -LL - Ultradeep Base
BAC 32 oz
B1 Black 14
G2 New Green 8
Y3 Deep Gold 40

Saigamantx's yellowish also is a great match to that lighter colored camo paint. The rifle on the left is the one I built and documented in my Step by Step Rhodie Build sticky thread in the images section. I just recently changed the stock out and repainted the lower, upper, and top cover. I still need to distress the paint job on that build as well as the middle and right builds.

It looks darn good to me. I might be pooping the build GTPC is doing for me. I would prolly be interested in some paint. My lower and pg has a lot of paint. A bit of brown too. I'm thinking Zimbabwe. Still wondering if cutting the scrubbed barrel is a good idea.

Rick.... Tempting, but stg won't fit in the "embargo' beater beast" plan. I'm happy with the main parts being "scrubbed". Doug has a shortened SA barrel, yet not sanitized. Damn me and my weird plan...

Show off! First you flaunt your shorty Para here and now these?
Who do you think you are?!?

Just kidding buddy, those look just as awesome as your shorty does! Now I know I was stupid for selling that 2nd kit and gear logo receiver I had stashed away.

Been reading and watching as much as I can on Rhodesia. Found this catchy tune...Rhodesian African Rifles. Some FALs in action
