Reprofile Barrel work?

So the short story is, I like my FAL a whole lot, but it's equipped with a 21" Medium contour barrel that I'd like to lighten up. I haven't found much info on getting a FAL barrel reprofiled. I'm thinking of cut down to 18", reprofiled, crown, rethread for a suppressor, but would I be better off just buying a new barrel and finding a good smith to swap the barrels?

Probably do barrel swap yourself for way less $. Find a local guy with tools. FAL assembly is easy with quality parts.

1) What receiver do you have?
2) Serial range if DSA?
3) Location

You're not going to be happy running a suppressor on a FAL, neither will the gun.

Shorten & thread - $125.

Recontour, shorten & thread - $275

I've turned heavy barrels down, but those were ones already chopped so thy're not usable w/bipod.

The medium contour used to be fairly popular and was one of DSA's better barrels. Throw one of my free-float handguards on, and . . . . well, it will still be a FAL.

1)It's a newer production DSA para trooper so I'm guessing a metric type 3?
2) DSA35xxx
3) Washington

I'm guessing buying a new barrel and rebarreling will be my cheapest option.

heh. I wouldn't want a FAL to be anything but a FAL. I've heard that suppressors don't get along with FALs but I was also wondering if the same would happen using a OSS suppressor which is known to have significantly lower backpressure.

Thanks for everyone's input. Sounds like I need to do a little more research and possibly searching for a ~18" barrel.
