Completely unorthodox M1A in Sage EBR chassis

This started as all my firearm projects start...as a fairly straightforward idea. I worked a FAL trade with our own Lear70 for a SOCOM 16 barreled action that was basically ready to drop into a stock, chassis, etc. Naturally, I decided to over-complicate the shit out of things, like I do, and go what many would equate to 'bat shit crazy' with this build. It's been going for about nine months, but here she finally is, in all her glory...

- Sage EBR Mod 0 heavy barrel chassis w/ selector cutout cover
- Krieger 1:10 stainless heavy barrel, was 22" cut and target crowned at 18.5"
- (not shown) OSS IFM-7 suppressor
- OSS cobalt suppressor mount muzzle device with Rousch jam nut
- Leupold VX5-HD 3-15 scope w/ Tenabraex ocular polarizer and Alumina objective flip cap, mounted in Spuhr mount atop an ARMS #18 (from Dashaus)
- Long Range Accuracy Ultra Light Scout bipod w/quick detach lever
- Schuster adjustable gas plug
- Misc accessories, including spun stainless fasteners and a trigger shoe from H2O Man (found @ http://m14ebr.us)

Our own member 'Parga' did the barreling, headspacing, bolt-truing, and muzzle/device work; he also sandblasted all the stainless barrel areas and shimmed the gas cylinder. And, before anyone asks, at the time of this writing I'd barely finished attaching the scope, and have not yet hit the range... *sigh*

The one item I really want to find is a mono-pod that fits between the stock and buttpad, or some sort of mono-pod assembly that is integral to the buttpad, such as the FAB Defense one...I just don't know if that one would fit the screw spacing in on the stock butt...the search continues...anywho, enjoy the photos

Very nice indeed. I have a Kreiger Heavy SS 22" 1-11 on one of my M25s in a JAE stock. Shooting right at .7 continuously. I would not be surprised if yours is around 1 moa. Good luck.

Range report for mine will have to wait til Tuesday after next, I'll be pulling a 96 hr work week, on nights, which leaves time for little else than a nightcap. Will post photos of results, both canned and un-canned...hopefully I'll see some similar results!

Looks great with the extended pull.
You might make up an adapter for a short rail on the butt rig screw pattern to facilitate the addition of an Accu-shot mono pod. They work super on precision rifles.

Spiffy!

Here is one of my winter projects:
James River Armory / Bula M14
Sage EBR with selector filler
Sage optics mount
TPS TSR rings
Leupold M1 4.5-14x50
LaRue bipod mount for Harris
Pictured on the 500m silhouette steel range at Lodi, WI (Winnequa).

Limited testing with one standard 168gr handload this spring shows promise @ under MOA on paper.

Some day am going to have to get some modern looking bling for an M1a. Hard for me to look at one of my rigs and thunk it might look better if threw a grand or more at a plastic and metal stock for it to sit in. Guess need a new receiver and build if so don't cry when preban Super or National gets desecrated. Does look super tactical and have a preban Basic that might be a good donor as my worst shooter and considered rebarreling along with other improvements more than once. Glad to know we have a guru here if decide to have such a project done.

@ Capt D:
Your photography of the rifle is fantastic, as is the rifle itself.
Thanks for posting the photos.

Many thanks, having the cheek rest further forward is definitely much more comfortable.

Have been thinking on the best way to add the monopod, as I've got one on the equally-ridiculous AR-308 that I could swap around...so far, goose-egg. Thoughts from the masses?

Thanks also, the light concrete and waning sunlight (and stock photo app on my S9) did all the work lol I just carried the beast to the carport

I too installed the trigger shoe from H2O man and also an extended/expanded mag catch...Sadlak, I think. Good upgrades.

I purchased at MidwayUSA and *rounded up*

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/10...ps-steel-matte

Install was pretty straightforward with need of a punch as slave pin.
It didn't ask for reparations!

In use, it is a good improvement, for me.

Bet you give the guys with "will work for food" a $20 bill after taking them to Longhorns.

Still haven't been able to take her out...work too much, and have had some pretty gnarly wind last couple trips out, each of which occur only every two weeks

I want to get zeroed before I frustrate myself trying to dope a variable-value quartering tailwind.

Range report will post here, once I'm successful in doing so; stay tuned...

Dayum Art, don't know how I've missed this! That is awfully nice sir. Contemplating the Sage swap for my Loaded model someday, but I do really like the precision stock it came with and have barely broken it in. Damned remodel has sucked every spare dime off me for the last 14 months, so even ammo has been a luxury of late.

We need to find a place between Houston and NW LA and meet up for a comparison. Curious how much of a gain there is to be had with the chassis.
