Both rifles test fired and zeroed. The garand was awesome, everything in the black and dinging metal out to 400 yds. As Doug Marcaida says:
The other rifle was also GTG except for a small problem. The front sight is loose on its mount. Still able to ding steel out to 300 yards, but I need to address that loose dovetail.

Invictus is a pretty dang good guy. Even if he did cut the nose off his rifle to make a trophy!

This Saturday night we're having my GF's birthday party/fall celebration. Nothing big, just having some friends over for some food and drinks, bonfire, ect. Y'all are welcome to come over after the match if you like. I'm about an hour away from the range in Statesville NC. Very easy to get to. Hit me up at jcornss@hotmail.com if interested.

I sold several of the beer tap handles made from drill rifle barrels and surplus wood, Garands mostly but I did do 1 M1903 Springfield. The only serviceable part on them is the front sight so no decent rifles were harmed in the process, lol..I`ve still got 1 or 2 I think
Question about registering...I registered to shoot a Garand, but it`s having issues at the moment. How do I change my class to carbine? ![]()

I suspect we have people in our SEC crowd who are familiar with it, and might be willing to direct it, if the range has space ![]()

This looks like a lot of fun. I cannot make this year but am going to try to make it if this is held again. Love what you are doing and not trying to be negative but I personally would love to see something like this opened up for more of the "vintage" weapons that fall just outside of your criteria. As it is, this match will not be dominated by AR15s like every other two gun match on the planet; but it probably will be dominated by M1 Garands. I love diversity (in weapons) and think it would be awesome to see FN49's, MAS 49's, Hakeem's, etc.
Just a thought, I'm not complaining. I don't even own any of those other rifles. I just think that would make for interesting competition as well as feature weapons from an interesting period of time. Weapons that for all practical purposes are obsolete as service rifles and were the bridge between the bolt actions and the beginning of the modern semi-auto service rifles and assault rifles. In my mind these truly are vintage weapons, most of them were obsolete before they were even fully issued. |

From what I have seen, the SKS and Hakim are allowed with the Hakim in the Battle Rifle semi class and the SKS in the carbine class. The SKS was issued to a select group of Russian soldiers prior to the end of the war, albeit with a different caliber cartridge:
The SKS (Samozaryadnyj Karabin Simonova = Simonov Self-loading Carbine) was designed (in 1943-44) by Russian arms designer Simonov, who already designed the self-loading rifle AVS-36 and an anti-tank rifle PTRS. First prototypes were built in the early 1945, and were tested in small numbers on the front against Germans. In consequent years both SKS and the cartridge were refined and in 1949 this carbine was officially adopted by the Soviet Army as an "7.62mm Samozaryadnyj Karabin Simonova obr. 1945 goda – SKS". Cited from "SKS Simonov -- Modern Firearms". Modernfirearms.net. The Hakim is a direct copy of the AG42 Lungeman that was issued to the Swedish Army/Home Guard in 1942-43. The Egyptians actually purchased the machinery from the Swedes to manufacture the Hakim. The 3 main differences were the caliber, 8mm Mauser versus 6.5 Swede, a larger and replaceable muzzle brake, and an adjustable gas system. These changes came about because of the huge amount of German made 8mm Mauser ammo they had in their possession after the end of WWII.

Results are up!
https://practiscore.com/results/new/67965 I have much, much more to say about this match but for now I’m enjoying a glass of red wine and some charcuterie. Today was an absolutely fantastic day and I can’t thank you guys enough for being a part of it. Thank you for your continued support!

Dang - Corn dominated wih the old bolt gun? Why am I not surpised?
I know you're tired and deserve a rest, but c'mon - just one pic of the costumes on display there! Did Hill shoot it in heels and that's why he finished so uncharacteristically low???

Without looking at the stats, the match breakdown was almost even between battle rifles, self loading battle rifles and carbines. The carbines had one less entry than the tied other two. I would like to thank all of the participants for stepping in and helping out for the after match breakdown.
And for those that had finished earlier in the day, the steel plate was demolished by a retired Marine with his 03 after 6 dead center hits. Had to lean the plate against the berm for the last couple of shooters to finish their match. ![]() And of course B17, Matt and PHA deserve a big thank you for host and putting on another great match. Can't wait for next year. While my Hakim shot well and only had a few ammo related issue, I will be bringing my garand next year, so y'all look out.

Bseveteen, what constituted a no shoot score other than the designated no shoots? I sure don't remember hitting any of the no shoots except the one I lost track of on stage three and I thought you said I shot that stage clean.

Quite a big turnout for this one! I belong to this club and when I was practicing for it last year, there were some members there benching modern heavy barreled bolt actions.
They said they knew about the match, but didn’t think many people would show up for it. They sure were way off with that prediction. Last year Airground shot an M1941 Johnson-definitely the star rifle of this get together. This year he shot a Walther G41 and gave quite a few hip pocket classes to the many people that were interested in this rare and historic rifle. This shoot is really a great environment to see exotic weapons outside of a museum actually being fired. The opening safety brief and closing ceremony were expertly handled by B17. Everyone was made to feel welcome and secure in this very safe and low stress environment. Thank You B17 for making this happen. |

Whew. Ok, after Carolina Run & Gun and now this, I am done with MD'ing for a while
![]() Thank you so much to all of you who supported and/or shot this match. We almost doubled in size this year, with 43 shooters total. Almost half showed up in uniform. I am just in love with this match because like Charles said, it is a chance to not only SEE cool firearms but actually see them be put to use. Almost every one of us had some kind of malf to deal with...it was fun and exciting. Thanks to Invictus for donating a bomb ass trophy that everyone loved!! And to Tac for making the trek to come and RO/shoot the match. ![]() Oh and Matt, I was thinking about what you said about womanly touches; I baked muffins for the match and brought apple cider, and some fresh cut flowers for the reg table ![]() I've got pics up now on facebook and the website as well - https://www.vintage2gun.com/photos I had a lot of fun shooting too. My performance wasn't that great...I basically waited all year and still did nothing to improve my mag/clip carrying situation...so again I was stuffing them in my jacket/etc. A couple times I was literally digging them out which cost lots of precious seconds. Still ended up 4/15 in my class and came back with two intact ankles after shooting in heels, so I have that going for me which is nice ![]() Hmm, on stage three I just see you having one C zone hit? I honestly don't remember I'm afraid, I might've meant that you just made all of the hits but not necessarily all A's? I can tell you that of the 25 or so people I RO'd on that stage only like 2 had all Alphas. Many had at least one FTN also.

Figured it out. Since I had trouble on Stage 5 and didn't get the hits needed in both runs, that totaled 15. So it looks like they were listed as No Shoots instead of Misses.

He is in one of the group pictures taken during the Match brief. Normal street attire for Hills - shirt, pants, jacket, and sandals. ![]() I believe he was shooting and SVT40 IIRC. He may had had some issues with his rifle. His pistol was a P38 and it functioned okay on my stage.

Hill is definitely one of the guys to measure yourself against.
Seeing his score, you know his rifle definitely malfunctioned. Having the chance to see a hippie shoot and scoot with an SVT40 is really cool stuff though. |

OMG, Jcornss shot like a friggen cyborg at this one. His rifle got a sticky action in the “mad minute”, but he just made up for it later. I congratulated him on his second place, but ever the overachiever, he’s like-“Yeah, first place loser.”
The guy that came in first in the bolt gun class was one of the match officials, and it wasn’t like he handicapped himself by wearin ankle spraining high heels! Jcornss wore running shoes and used modern gear, but I don’t believe that wearing running shoes instead of leather Military shoes and using modern gear instead of period gear would have put me ahead of him. I am extremely happy with third place bolt action though, and I walked away with one of the top prizes anyways. Well, I did “gamer” it some by carrying 3 spare mags fror my 1916 BSA, but I always carried way extra mags in real life anyways. And yes, I felt sorry for the guys with K98s, and especially for that lone guy with a Krag! High heels were more of a handicap than my bolt action against her Garand, so once again, B17 kicked my ass at Vintage 2 Gun-in heels-but yeah, I still loved it. |
