Mitchell AK-47 7.62X51 value?
Does anyone here have an idea of what these things are worth these days? From what I understand it is one of 320 that were imported pre-1989 and the correct scopes are really hard to find. Other than that there isn't a whole lot of info on them.
Mitchell Arms Import Yugo M77 .308 Stamped "AK-47" not "M-90" Thank you for any help in advance..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Mags are also a real pain in the rear. Very much like finding 5.56 mm Valmet mags.

There is a place in Maryland that imports the Zrak scopes. Can't think of the name off hand, they may be able to help with the scope.

You can check with PA Distributing, but I doubt if he has had any stock in a while. While you might find a Zrak scope with the proper elevation drum for 7.62x51, you will go mad trying to find the proper mount for the Mitchell rifle. I have one of the Post ban rifles, and spent a very long time looking for a mount. I could still use the 7.62x51 elevation drum. I have accumulated several magazines from when they were available, they also have become scarce. That is a really nice rifle, I wish it were around when I was looking.

I keep track of them on GB casually, but it's not that common to see the Preban version come up. Usually it's the M90s.
If I was in the market, I'd be thinking of it this way: $2000 is a steal; even if you don't want it, buy it If I wanted one, I wouldn't lose any sleep at $2500 $3000+ (Without lots of magazines or the scope) and it will be sitting a long time, but might still sell. Magazines aren't as hard as they used to be. CSSpecs makes/recently made some very high quality 20 rounders for those rifles. Long Mountain Outfitters also had a bunch of original magazines as of a couple of years ago. Not sure if they still do, but they were asking $65 each when I bought mine. |

Thank you everyone, I figured a safe value on it would have been around $2K or so. Your input is much appreciated!

I sold my "re-militarized" M77PS after having put about $1300 into it, and it still couldn't accept a factory M77 stock, bayonet, etc. Totally different universes. A nice G1 kit build with nothing but NOS parts and a Grayslake receiver might be a $2000 gun. A beat to hell G-series is a $5k "can't believe I didn't buy it" rifle. Does a G-Series really outshoot a nice G1 build? I doubt it. I don't buy that Zastava is GENERALLY significantly lower quality in 2017 vs 1987, but there certainly is a lot of collector's value in any of the original Zastava prebans or even post 1989 Mitchells stuff. Mitchell's sold Zastava's best; Century demands their cheapest. If they didn't have non-competes, somebody could certainly sell Zastava stuff that would rival any of the Mitchell's items, but it's just not going to happen in this market. This market is about intangibles, and that's true of even the most utilitarian guns. If that doesn't make sense to you, you're probably buying pretty functional stuff at fair prices. But that mentality is not universal. |

I would agree with Tony's valuation and say an auction will tell. I would like to see items like this go to other members here.
