Probably one of the reasons why they are still guerrillas and not the party in power.

Perhaps she's still working out the length of pull issues. At least she's willing to stand there and pull the trigger....

Yes they still have them saw one mounted to the top of a pickup truck at the airport. I wasn’t hanging around to ask questions. I just wanted to get on that big ole jet airliner and GTF out of Dodge

I really like the wood on her rifle. I wonder if it is actually wood or plastic? Anyone know for sure?

Last time I checked RFI was still advertising the 1A series for sale along with a 7.62mm Bren and their version of the Sterling SMG.

The handguard is certainly plastic.

When you hold it on top of your shoulder you need to fold it down to adjust for elevation. I noticed the same thing a few days ago I don’t consider Indian FALS. Just yuck

I don’t know about that. They look to have a grain and it’s darker in the back. Looks consistent with wood to me, but that resolution isn’t making it very clear.

Nope. The profile is a dead giveaway. There's a write-up somewhere around here about them.

This is definitely the case. Honestly the dude behind her is doing the same to hide his identity. How many times could a human shoot a FAL like that logically? Once?

Thanks CH1291, that’s a lot better.

Definitely wood. Also, that guy behind her has a nasty handguard, I hope that’s just the remains of some camo paint!

Well, there ya go. In my defense, there are resin/plastic handguards out there profiled like that, but they are more orange in color.

Here's a couple of pics of the plastic handguards.

Looks like this guy is using the rear sight flipped down aiming method.

The L4 series. The Brits used as late as the Falklands war. The SADF used them in Angola and SW Africa

To be correct, the SA 7.62 Brens were not L4's, but rather .303's converted to fit and fire 7.62 NATO and metric FAL magazines. A number were sent to Rhodesia.

Yes you are correct of course. The India built 7.62 Brens are to L4 standard as far as I know.

No defense needed!

I like the look of these guards. Both the wood ones and the ribbed plastic ones. Anyone got a model? A search for “Indian FAL handguard” turned up nothing.

Thanks!

I like the look, too, but man oh man, do I feel filthy after looking at Indian FALs.

The current Indian hand guards are a composite glass fiber affair. They were introduced in 1988 and internal factory references it as such. Though there is no official designation for it, how about we just christen it '88 Pattern' just for ease of communication amongst us FAlcoholics?

There are three distinct hand guard patterns on Indian SLR1As

First is the regular wooden one that's more or less identical to the British type.

Second is a composite fiber-plastic slabside with pressed metal ferrules much like the Australian Mk1/2 but with the two long slots. Dark Brown to plum brown

Third is the ribbed 1988 pattern that is in discussion.

The stock, grips and carrying handles of current production 1As are Nylon66

Ordnance specified color is "Leaf Brown" and while the Nylon 66 parts are molded in that color, the composite hand guards are painted. The paint usually wears off rapidly to the natural dark brown color (as in the pictures posted earlier in the thread). Carrying handles, for whatever reason is black Nylon 66.

In the late 1990s there was a somewhat crude handguard that was patterned just like the 1988 one but made of a plastic-wood chip composite just like the Vz58....same deep amber color too. Obviously inspired by the Czech stocks where were procured in limited numbers in the mid 1980's. I recall it was rather crude with a lot of sharp corners and I saw it in a depo small arms workshop only once...never since.

I like the wooden ones the most.

Indian 1As are still being manufactured, mostly to fill requirements of the police and other non-military users. The production, though, has been shifted from RFI (Ishapore) to OFT (Tiruchirpalli) in the South.

FALs are constantly popping up in third world conflicts in South America, Africa and the middle East.

Same, and another one had a beat-up para. The top cover had two serious dings on it. I'd be surprised if it actually functions.
