New to the fal world, need some insight

Hello all,

I am the proud owner of my first fal. I have been wanting one for many years and finally jumped in. I was wondering if there is any insight in the fal I purchased. I am new to fals and have not much knowledge. Anything you guys can tell me would be amazing. Hopefully I didn't buy a junker.

Thats a nice rifle. I don't know that much being I just got into them as well but I know you have an imbel reciever which is a good thing.

Very nice rifle. Looks like a STG58 kit on an Imbel receiver. If it has the original STG barrel itís considered an excellent barrel from what Iíve read on this forum. Enjoy it!!

I've the same combination, and is my best shooter. Remove the hand guards and look for the proof marks. Also see if the serial on the barrel matches the trigger housing, bolt, and carrier.

Thank you all so much. This is great information. I will take off the handguard tomorrow to examine the barrel markings. Is there a furniture set you guys recommend. I have to say this furniture looks great but would prefer not to bake cookies in the handguard lol.

Imbels are good and cheap but usually a little beat. Argy are good and not so cheap but usually great condition. Then there's DSA which are available and decent. And then there's wood which feels real nice and costs a ton unless you get he Aussie laminates which are relatively cheap and pretty durable but you pretty much need to go full wood furniture if you want wood guards. Looks strange otherwise.

I have a twin. But mine was put together by CIA as evidenced by a very faint mark just above the PAC serial number. It shoots awesome. I like the metal hand guards so far. I did replace my stock with some type of beach wood stock that looks like walnut it is so dark.. almost black. I like the look of metal hand guard black shiny plastic grip and wood butt. I think you got a good one!

The lower receiver seems to have a slight brownish hue to it. Is there anything I should do to it to clean it up or anything I should worry about. Can you refinish the metal?

Leave it...that's character. You could refinish it, but I'd advise against that. The originality would be gone, and you can never 'undo' that. Obviously it's your stick, and they sure do look nice when reparked. But, it's not like it's scratched, gouged, and rusted, right? Always your choice, give it some thought. Just my $.02...

yeah as others have said, assuming it shoots fine I would not do a single thing to that rifle.

Great first pick-up.
