Walther P1s at AIM

Missed out on the P38s but got one of the P1s. It looks like new.

Link?

EDIT: Never mind.

https://www.aimsurplus.com/product.a...search=Walther

The pic DOES NOT show an example that has the later hexagonal reinforcing lug in the frame. That's the one you want if your going to shoot it.

And they're overpriced. :-(

They made these up until 2000, so we should be seeing these for a while.

I am not sure you can find them for much less , especially if backed by a reputable vendor. Sometimes a deal shows up in the market place but I doubt you can take a good one home for less than $450. I may actually pull the trigger on one with the hex lug.

I picked up this 62 P38 in almost mint condition from AIM.

This was going to be a shooter, however I think I will keep it in is current condition and pick up a Hex P1 from them now just for shooting.
I don't think they are too expensive. People always say that then there gone.

I picked up a P1 from AIM to go along with the post war P38 I purchase two weeks ago. This one is a Fat Slide HEX (2/80) I will use as my shooter. Looks to be in unissued shape.

Thanks AIM!

I got my like new P1 hex bolt from Ganders at $250 about 12 ys ago when it was abundant. I have not shot it yet! Current price is a bit high to me. But I skipped a few GI M1 Carbines 10 yrs ago when they were asked $550 in my local gun shop and now they are $1K!

+1

Back then (12 years ago) people were saying $250.00 was to high for a P1.
What will these pistols be worth in the next 12 years? A. It wont be $500.00.

I have been in the C&R game for the last 25 years every time something comes out some will say it's too expensive for what it is. Then 5 years down the road the same people will say "why did I pass on that"

Yes I agree I should have picked up one of these 12 years ago too but back then I was getting other C&R stuff. BTW 12 years ago these pistols were not on the C&R list. One of the things I did pickup back then was a nice Inland WW2 M1 carbine for $600.00.

I say get this stuff when it's available because it will only cost more & be harder to find in the future.

Sounds like people I know who were proud to say they would buy SKS by the barrel for under $50 a pop, take to a quarry to shoot, and at the first malfunction would smash it on a rock, dump it on the accumulated water, and get another one. Or the ones who said they bought Nagant rifles just to use as fenceposts. After all, those were commie pieces of junk, right? And both groups now are all in full blown would-should-coulda mode.

I did some research before I bought one. Seems the frame cracking the hex pin fixed was because of a steady diet of M/G ammo being shot through them.

Does anyone here know if dry-firing a P1 will hurt it? I bought one last year, rust blued the steel, Duracoated the aluminum, and put some P38 grips on it. Looks like the real deal, I'm planning on using it at the Pecos RNG in September. Been dry-firing it, and I keep thinking "is this OK?"

My first pistol was a P38

My father bought me a new Walther P38 in 1968, and I shot huge quantities of WWII surplus through it, mostly submachine gun ammo. I never changed the recoil springs. I never had a frame cracking problem. About 1990 I was oiling it up after a range trip, and I did notice a crack working its way up the left side of the slide at the locking recess. My father and brother also had P38 pistols and had the slide top cover and extractor disappear when they had pierced primers.

All of you who are buying P38 pistols, buy some spare recoil springs, and when the springs on your pistol get a good bit shorter than new, replace them. You also might want to buy one of the cheap new spare slides at CDNN. They have slide top covers also.

Where are the best places to get quality recoil springs? I have an AC41 I would like to make tip-top.

Local auction had a crate of Mosins. Sold for like $5200. Whooda thunk it. I did get a mint Dan's Ammo P1 with holster for like $200 a few years back. Never fired a round through it. I think I know where it is. I'll have to dig it out.
