C wood

Looking thru my kit pile for a possible type A stock trade to coddoan and came across this beauty I didn't even know I had. Not near as nice as Jug's Buttpadded C or pmac's BGS "A" but kinda close. Nice surprise, too bad it's not an A though, flash makes it look yellow in the pic...

Another of Blue Monster's superlative creations: making a new Type A butt, pistol grip and carry handle and matching them to my original Israeli hand guards.

The striping on jimbobs rifle is spectacular!

You all have some beautiful rifles. When I asked Rich (CGW) to build my FAL in 2004, I stupidly ditched the original G1 butt stock for a DSA X series. 12 years later, I'm hunting down parts to make her her as close to original as possible. I'll post mine soon

Final result of my wood restoration

My L1a1 woods were not in a bad condition but the pieces were very dirty. Completely saturated of grease, oil and other filth. I started to clean them with a degrease solution used by furniture restorers. Then I washed them with natural soap and fresh water. The problem was that when I left the pieces exposed to the sunlight they started again to sweat old dirty oil. I solved the problem wrapping the woods with soft paper ant heated them in a oven for about 15' at 80C, repeating the cycle several times as long as the paper came out clean.

Then I started to treat them wit tung oil. For the first layers I diluted the oil with turpentine and then I used it pure. I repeated the painting several times polishing with steel wool (grit 0000).

here some pics before and after restoration:

Ciao

Here you go,

The latest catch is an M1 dated 4/44 and has Dutch Policecorps stamps.
GPH 1 markings means Gemeente Politie Haarlem No 1
Local police city of Haarlem
I like the stock repair The rifle has more blueing intact as my old M1

The other one(with sling) i have for years.
Paco

Not the nicest wood, but boy's, what a gun!

I know, it's a airsoft replica.
I'm a great enthusiast for the FN FAL and the L1A1!
Due to the hopeless gun regulations in the Netherlands, I decided that I'm going to play Airsoft games with the FAL/L1A1
I bought a replica of the gun and build it up with the original wooden stock and hand guards.
I want to share it with you, cause I'm one of the few who play airsoft with the FAL/L1A1 and that the FAL still going strong on this type of "battlefield"

The only thing I want for the gun, is a Trilux/SUIT scope.
It fits, but again due to the gun regulations overhere is it impossible to import such a scope and you can't find it here

Greetings form Holland,
Harry

That's so funny you mention this--had the same issue with a super sexy Izzy HB stock (thx LKY_13!), so I baked 'er up at 90C for 30 min, also wrapped and taped in paper towels. Luckily, I only had to do one iteration of this, just wiped it down well and let it dry, then steel wool and paste wax...turned out pretty well if I do say so (sry for crappy lighting):

Nice stock. You know, it is pretty easy to steam those dents out. Shame to stop when you're almost there.

Thought I'd share my Argy. Sac Latta import upper with matching barrel, on matching Argy kit. But the wood is obviously why I'm posting here. Real Argy stock, took me forever to find it. Thank you Aezcur! It's got some dings and one good sized dent, but I really dig it.

Ironwood black walnut furniture with Watco Danish oil. Not sure if I should add some more or wax it or what but so far, I am digging it.

I roll toilet paper around my stocks and put them in a black trash bag. I then leave it on my car dash with the reflective sun deflector under the bag for the week. Changing the toilet paper everyday. Being patient over a week and washing the stock with dish soap/water every night. Tung oil applied everyday until it does not absorb it anymore...3-4 days. If you have dents you can steam the wood after the Tung oil. You have to be careful you don't dry out the wood too much or else it will crack.

Not gun wood but...

...since I put my katana and naginata on the 'Sharper Side' forum, figured I'd throw one of my prized drums (sans hardware) up here. American black walnut from NoCal, solid and lathe-turned...part of a 9+ year project that STILL ain't done...

16(w) x 12(h) as a single pc of wood:

Izzy HB Woodz

Need to revive this thread. Izzy HB stock (from WhataCountry) and handguard panels, Minwax 'gunstock' stain and matte spray poly. Still needs wax, but good for a foto-op; still refinishing the metal for the handguards...

He's one I just rebuilt. Hoping to get it out to the range for a shakedown this weekend.

Mostly STG-58 with walnut Ironwood furniture and a few other personalized touches.

Will throw up so better lit photos maybe tomorrow (in the 'Variants' thread under 'FAL Images'), but for now my excitement cannot be contained an longer...yeah yeah, I know, no sling or sling mounts...screws are being reparked with some other bits. But for the time being, here is my nearly-all-NOS Israeli heavy barrel, complete with NOS Izzy mag and stupid-rare hinged cover, plus ultra sexy wood:

That must have taken a lot of patience to get all the NOS parts collected.

I was lucky enough to have member 'coltwalker' help me out on the harder to find parts (HG spacer, never-installed barrel/coupler/FH assembly/unmolested complete lower), Denny sold me the hinged topcover, and got the Israeli PG from member 'heckler65'. Jose Avendano (can't remember his callsign here) provided the foundation with a number of the small parts. Member 'tdb59' and 'John Crusher' hooked me up with the HG and the wood panels, What-a-Country hand selected the stock for me, and Kickback Coatings (Riverdale, UT) did the outstanding paint work. Members 'aezcur' and 'coltwalker' provided the NOS mags. Everything looks amazing--hell, the gas reg and rear sight base still have the original colorfill in the numbers. Just gotta get 'er to the range now...get some copper in those grooves....

Well I've been away from awhile but I'm glad I came back.....I picked up this Imbel kit w/ Imbel gear logo received from a guy about an hour from here. I put the Israeli butt stock because I prefer th shorter L.O.P....Great shooter; likes that Hirtenberger ball ammo and shoots my moa with my reloads.
