19X

Anyone here pick up a 19X? Like many I thought a 19 slide on a 17 frame was a backwards, goofy idea and then I got one in my hands and absolutely loved it. I have larger hands so the 17-frame sans finger grooves felt great. It’s a little on the bulky side for EDC (I regularly ccw a standard 19), but for a range or nightstand gun, it’s just the ticket.

All I can say is I sell every one I get in at work, usually the same day. They also have the Glock 45, basicly same thing but black and front slide serrations. So while you are not alone thinking it was goofy, your not alone wanting one either!

Being a fan of the Colt Commander .45ACP, I never really thought the concept of a standard size grip frame and short slide to be particularly goofy, but as with anything ymmv.

I have a 19X and it has quickly become a favorite. I especially like that it comes standard with steel night sights.

Yes to this point as well. We sell the 19x in our store for $599. A regular gen 5 Glock is 549-559 ish. You can’t buy night sights for the difference and stock Glock sights are crap, or at least they seem really cheap.

I have big hands. Or, rather, wide hands. Still, makes absolutely zero sense to me. Other than the latest, greatest fad. People are amusing.

Have you held or fired a 19X??

I thought the same at first as I couldn’t recall the last “New” thing I got excited about but then I handled one.

No... However, with respect, do I really need to? It's just like every other G17 I've worked with... only, w/a reduced sight radius/barrel length. Which is exactly the opposite of what I like. I love the 19 frame. To me, it is superior in ergonomics to the 17 frame. Despite being a little short (which, honestly is fine, and better for CCW) the hump is perfectly placed. The hump on the 17 sits lower in my hand, and doesn't work nearly as well. Also, I generally prefer a longer slide. I'd rather a 17 slide on 19 frame...

If it really, truly works better for you than either a traditional G17 or G19 I genuinely am happy for you. And do not wish to rain on your parade. I wan't people to be excited. And, certainly not all hands are built equal. However, to me it just seems like new cool for the sake of cool. If you need a bigger frame to fit your mitts-- in the role of night stand gun. Then G17 seems to be the right answer. To me.

I know where you’re coming from. I’ve felt the same way about a lot of “new” and sometimes what I’d call “gimmicky” designs, the 19X just works for me...so of course I purchased two of them.

Glory be, somebody else must have hands like mine. The 19/23 frame feels better to me as well. The smaller 26/27 frame does not feel great, but I shoot it well, so be it.

Gen3 19/23s fit me better than any other Glock.

19X

I picked one up for my wife to shoot and she loves it. Great reliable pistol and it comes with actual metal sights on it! I just wish they installed the rear sight centered on the pistol. I do think it's balanced a lot better than its siblings too.
It's definitely ugly though lol.

Valmet-- I owe you an apology, and must eat crow today.
I was at the shop checking out a new FN, and... for kicks
and giggles asked Todd to show me both the 19X and 45.
While not smitten, I can say that there certainly is some
fine balance to them. Very nice, actually. I'd love to handle
the 45 at full capacity, and shoot/check out the balance...
Ok, maybe a little smitten, if honest...

Why are my initial impressions almost always wrong?

I picked up a new 19x back in October. I absolutely love it. I like it better than my two G17s.

No apology necessary sir. That’s exactly how I was until I got one in my hands. Hell, I almost brushed off the offer to handle it at the LGS thinking, “why do I need to see that?”

As for the 45, I’m personally not a fan of the forward serrations. Truth be told I’m not overly-fond of the coyote tan on the 19X but I prefer it over the forward serrations of the 45.

They got rid of those STUPID finger grooves. Whooot! Might sell my Gen 3 Austrian one....I hate those grips. Wonder how the US made barrels stack up to the original Austrian ones for durability?

Now if they'd only get rid of that dumbass rail on the dust cover.

I've been shooting Glocks for a long time and have owned a lot of them..a lot.

I really love the 19X and I've also recently acquired a Glock 45. Great balance, great grip, etc.

Fantastic.

Yeah, I'm thumb down on the 19x as well. It is an answer in search of a question. Same with the 43x. I played with them at my buddy's shop while engraving receivers and just couldn't see any value in a shorter slide with a longer grip. So I bought a 48. Because at least I could rationalize a thinner model with a 10 rd mag. I don't care for my 43. I don't see the point of permanent grip extension magazines versus a full size grip, and the slide has not been the concealment issue. And while better than the 26 in pocket carry, it still looks like I have a glock in my pocket. The SW 642 doesn't imprint at all.

But the 48 is kindof sleek. I can't imagine it for OWB carry as then a 17 fits (although I hear rumer of an aftermarket steel mag that will hold more without extending). But I'm thinking the thinner slide will work better in appendix carry, which is new to me - having struggled to regain my svelte, suave, and debonair physique, I've eschewed appendix carry. But the tactical advantages are so great I am revisiting it.

I can maybe see the shorter slide on the X models being better in appendix carry because that's the one time when the longer slide + bending over, could be annoying. But for the other 270 degrees of my shrinking waistline, the longer slide is better - IMO..

I bought one last year and I actually like it.
Fits my hand really nice. Shoots reliably.
The added grip does alot for us tall guys with big hands.

Granted not so fond of the color.

There's the Colt Tank Officers model.

And who could not fall in love with the Lt. Commander model.
