Since plates are hanging and shots will be called
or visualized, why bother hanging that many?

Why not 2? Might be harder going back and forth.

Great point - we don't "need" lots of targets if we're going to leave them hanging.

But I think we want to 'offer' non-swinging, 'still' targets so we can go as fast as possible. I also think it will be easier for the spotter to call hits if the shooter is progressing down the line.

That ^ is what Rich and I talked about, and I'm on the phone with Terry right now. I think we're going with the nine targets.

We're trying to accommodate fast guys like you.

And I *think* that the first shooters on that event are going to be

Justin
Terry
Jonathan
Brandon (if he's coming), and
me

So we can kiss off and go to the other side of camp and get the Ironsman/3 Gun thing going

Rich - that is super cool of you.

We aren't re-setting on handgun, 3 Gun, or Moses Match, but we sure are going to be re-setting (as usual) on the Drop 15. If you can swing it, that would be bitchin'.

If I followed the COF correctly, 100 rds of handgun and 150 rds for riFAL should cover ammo needs, correct?

"They" meaning the guys in South Carolina.

I made that confusing by listing their thing ("best of 3") in our list of things (wind, desert, stands / resetting, etc.).

But in the future, if you beat me, I'm going to see if I can get a second run...

This statement brings up another point needing addressed...

All shooters coming to the line for the DROP 15 and MOSES match will need to ask someone to spot for them, I'm not going to do it anymore....My eye's just ain't what they used to be, and it diverts my attention away from what the SHOOTER is doing...I'm running the line, and that places the responsibility of safety upon me. We've got a STELLER safety record going here friends, I only want to perpetuate it.

I got my first pair of prescription glasses this year and I have to buy those cheapo Wal Mart 5 pack reading glasses now. I hear ya! I agree, the range officer should not be calling shots.

Also, thanks Brunop for the event thread. Much appreciated.

Amen, and an almost duplicate sentiment of the conversation that Terry and I were having the other day.

Shooters - bring your own spotter.

Could someone remind me what the Otis match was? Was it 20 shots from 200-500?

I'm trying to figure out ammo needs here
Sorry I haven't posted much in this thread. Been busy. Its a good thing!!!

Yes 200-500 yards, 20 shots, 5 per target.
Any rifle. Irons or optic. Both different categories.

Also for you scope users, it won't be so easy this year.
Just sayin.

Hey, Otis -

Is that 5 hits per target, or you are allowed five rounds per target and you are counting hits (like 4 out of 5 at 200, 3 out of 5 at 400, etc.)?

Or you are allowed a maximum of five rounds per target in order to get one hit, and the whole thing is on the clock?

Just trying to remember.

Yes timed. 5 rounds per target. You want all hits, but if you miss then that will be marked down. Person with the most hits, and lowest time wins.

Two events Saturday morning =

Drop 15 from 0830 (or whenever) to 1030 (or whenever)

Otis61 Long Range from 1100 to 1300 (or whenever)

Later afternoon is free for the Rifleman's part of the Rifleman's Challenge and/or for handgun plinking (as usual...).

Or for drinking beer. Or cooking dinner. Or praying to Carlos Hathcock as you steel your nerves for the King Shot.

Hathcock ran glass, even at Perry.

Personally, I will be asking for spiritual guidance from two men.

For those that might not be familiar-

The above pic is shlomo shooting the Garand previously owned by Col. Rex Applegate.

I shot my Garand with hand loaded, on a scientific scale, 155 grain Palma bullets on once fired LC brass, Varget powder, and a #34 primer. Terry shot some GI ammo from 1953 or so. I beat Terry by a point? Who really was better that day? Duh!

Does that help with 1887 Shotguns?

Or for drinking beer. Or cooking dinner. Or praying to Carlos Hathcock as you steel your nerves for the King Shot.
Sounds good!

By the way, I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but I knew Hathcock's son in the Marine Corps. We were both Lance Corporals, and shot against each other in the 1987 Eastern Division Matches. He, of course, did much better than I did.

Me too!

I'll walk around in a bandage beforehand - just in case.

Wow - that's cool.

Probably a difficult thing being Long Trang's son in the Marine Corps and trying to shoot competitively. Hard to live up to it.

I met Hathcock's son at the 2002 Wilson Match in Arkansas. Pretty nice guy, I felt a bit bad for him because of all the attention he got. Hard to kick back with the joes and relax. The CWO that was in charge of the team gave me a lot of good pointers about shooting the 1911A1 for the pistol leg match. They were a pretty cool bunch of guys. Not snooty at all.

While we have yet to determine a scoring sequence...

The target hanger for the first stage of every day, as always, will be prominently located at the top of the entrance road.

While some targets are provided, best practice is to bring your own roll of targets, as the "house targets" are thin and usually run out, the first day.

So, um, yeah...
