226's at Widener's? (Picked it up today)

Hi All
Anyone seen one of the 226's that Widener's has for sale? I am thinking of getting one and wanted to know if they were any good or warn out.

So a while back I went a head and rolled the dice and ordered one of the Sig 226's that Widner's had on sale. So I got a call from my FFL Dealer last week that it was in. I picked it up this morning. Not to bad. Its deffinatley a used gun. Shows a lot of holster wear on the slide, frame looks good. Someone scratched there initial's in the lower dust cover and the lower part of the trigger guard looks like they filed off the little bump that would normaly be there. At first I thougth I might try to send it back due to that trigger guard but?? I am thinking I will just polish it up and use a sharpie to make it match the rest of the frame. Night sights still just barley working, odd thing is it looks like they have dots on the top of the sight so you could line it up from the hip if you looked down on it. Came with one Z back mag. So what do you think, worth the $425.00?

Then as some of you may recall or have read. I bought a set of Sig mags at the gunshow a week or so ago hoping they would fit. Turns out they were for a Sig 228. So I have mags but no gun they fit. Then Widners poped up an add that they found some more Sig 228's. So I chanced that one also at $465.00 The 228 is in a little better shape then the 226. Still a bit of holster wear (mainly on top of the slide) but there is a cool little German Police stamp (I think its German at least) on the slide. The night sights on this one were dead and it has a MecGar mfg mag in it. It was dirty from having been fired (much like the Pre CZ 75 I got from them a while back).

So as long as they shoot good I think I should be in good shape. Added to my 9mm stable and I think if the finish bothers me to much I can get them redone farly easy. By the way both of the Sigs were imported by PW Arms and have a fairly small stamp on the slide. With luck I will get to shoot them this monday.

How does one "wear out" a SIG 226?

If the frame rails aren't cracked, you can change out every spring on that pistol pretty easily. I still run my old(1988 manufacture) duty gun. All I've changed out on it are the night sights, the recoil spring and the hammer spring.

I thought the slide rails could wear,but being police trade ins,most likely carried a lot and shot little.

There is one locally,$430,a lot of finish wear,but looks like a police turn in.

Changing out the decocker spring is a good idea and slide lock spring - these are odd shaped and not easy to improvise.

The roll pins in the slide should be changed every 6k or so.

I like my 226 a lot but shoot my Glocks more often these days. I believe for a house gun the Sig is safer.

The sig pro shop offers a very nice upgrade service for the 226. New fire controls springs and night sights for 150 last I saw it. Great gun, great price.

I've not purchased one from Dan's, however the P6 is an outstanding buy. The German machining is exceptional.
As long as it's been well cared for, these are a work-horse of a pistol.

I've had two. The only difference between the P6 and P225 is the trigger pull. The P6 is a bit stiffer than the P225. Other than that, they are identical.

I'm buying another soon. They are among the best single stack 9's available along with the Walther P5 and HK's P7.

This trio was in the German police trials back in the '70's. All three were approved and adopted by various agencies.

Looks good for the money! Just can't beat a SIG. I just got another P226 myself, this time a newer P226SAS in 40 S&W. Also have a P225 on the way, and a P220 laid away. You'll be happy with that pair you got.

Now you need to spend another hunnerd-dollars-or-so on holsters.

You aint doin' it right unless you burn through at least as much on ammo and accessories within a fortnight.

Old Sarge, I like the way you think. You have a mag that doesn't have a gun to go with it so....you buy the missing gun. Great concept.

Been known to do that myself. I bought a couple of short .45 S&W mags cheap ($10 each) at a gun show thinking they would fit a buddy's 4516. They didn't, but they did fit the CS45 I bought several years later.

Price out a CS45 mag these days.

I also just bought a Police Trade-in 5906 because I have lots of S&W 59 series mags for my Marlin Camp Carbine and wanted a handgun to match. Any excuse to buy a gun.
