Good AK Building Tutorial/Instructions?

I've got my Global Trades/Arsenel receiver on order so I figured while I wait for it to hit my FFL's doorsteps I would try to find a decent AK building video/DVD or a decent build book. I've read a couple of website builds and info. I also read SGN's most recent article about building an AK but I feel like I need a little more info. I've used AGIs tapes in the past for my FFL builds and my custom mauser builds. What do you guys recommend? Hey, does anyone have a good instructional I could barrow or even rent? Man, I've tried to get Blockbuster to start a gunsmithing section. When I ask for that section they act like I'm some kind of gun toting nut! and they're hands are quivering over the phone as if they're going to call the Feds on me. Okay, I admit it, they got the first part right about me but I am a law abiding citizen! Really, I am......!

Drick,

If you have a matching kit your AK was headspaced by the factory. As long as you properly fit your trunion you should be OK. The way you fit your trunion is first your trigger guard assembly must be riveted. Take your trunion and free place it in the receiver. The mag catch is cut in the front trunion. Take an AK magazine and put it in the magwell and hand fit the magazine to the trunion until it fits snug but not to tight. Once you have the mag like you want it, take a C clamp and clamp the trunion to the receiver so the trunion won't move. Take a few more AK mags and fit them in the mag well to make sure your different mags fit snug and hold. Now that you have the trunion snug , trim the front of the receiver to meet the front of the trunion so you can make the precise measurements from the front of the receiver to drill the holes for you rivets. After the rivets are in and the trunion is tight, the barrel goes in and your barrel is then pinned into the correct breach length and headspace. Of course, this is for a stamped receiver and a milled receiver is a whole different ball of whacks. I guess I should of asked you if your kit is a milled kit or a stamped kit. Of course, there's a few more steps inbetween but this should give you the jist.

Thanks, Regal Beagle, that is the info I was needing. I have a stamped receiver kit, and it is all matching #s. The reason I asked is I talked to Global USA and asked if they would press out my barrel and rivet their 1mm receiver to it and they told me I would have to pay $135.00 bucks to have them headspace it. Just sounded a little fishy. Thanks again, drick

Thumbs up AK Home building.

I am just a small firearms collector and I would also like to try my hands on building my own AK47 to be part of my collections, I heard there are some ak home builders who some times hold parties to build like this kind, I am interested to get in touch with any of these great groups around Pittsburgh, PA if there are any for a possible ak home building parties, I can also bring in and share my BBQ or any,... plus a little "monetary fee" if needed, you may send me private e-mail. Thanks in advance....Deep

It's really fun. I built a few of the $89 Bocefus G Kits with No Dak spud receivers and AK Builder rivets and they are still going strong.
