Question FN Herstal Serial Numbers Search ... ???

Is there any way to research FN Herstal FAL serial numbers like we can call DSA and ask them to trace a serial number for historical information on a rifle?

Yes- like D. said, import ranges, some features (ex- short vs long flashider), and owner data that we compare on here.

About 6 years ago, I emailed FN with the serial number of a 50.63 and they were able to tell me the production year and when Howco imported it. Try an email and see what you get.

That's pretty much the exception to the rule, but it can't hurt to try. As Dean said, the records were pretty much all destroyed - under the brief French ownership regime, IIRC ?

Very cool that you were able to get the info for your FAL, though !

Thumbs up Thank You

Thanks folks for the answers.

Does anyone know why they destroyed all the records? IMHO this is very unlike Europeans to destroy records like this.

I know what you mean - common enough in this country, especially during corporate mergers or taleovers, don't know that that is often the case over there. Maybe the French were having one of their little snits ???

Also, I believe the 50.63s were towards the end of importation (mid-late 80s). Many of the other pre-ban FNs were already here- Steyr guns, GSI Birmingham, and all of the Type 2s. So like Jim said, the 50.63s may be the exception.

But it’s worth a shot
