Essential Arms J-15

I picked up an Essential Arms J-15. Not a parts gun on a EA receiver, but an actual complete rifle from Essential Arms. I did not know they made complete guns. Turns out they bring some pretty good change. I bought it for a song. I'll try to get some pics up.

Krotz Springs, LA?

I've bid on a couple complete rifles through the years but never owned one.

Look forward to pics.

I built (assembled) an AR with GI parts on one of their J 15 receivers a few eons ago, still use it, but it now has a 24" barrel. At the time they were one of the few available and they were a better receiver than the "Oly" i.e., Olympic Arms.
I finally stripped the Oly and put it in the spare parts box.

Can't say that I knew of a whole Essential Arms AR.

what states still have '94 type laws?

Essential Arms (337) 945-0185
All are Pre-Ban as they went out of business in 1993. (DPMS bought them prior to the Ban) Call DPMS Lower receiver serial numbers begin with EA. Some or all lowers are cast. Light gray coloring. It is rumored that Ruger investment casted the lowers for Essential Arms. ***Updated by Typeo1313*** Essential Arms has recently started produceing recievers again. Most if not all are marked J-15-F. Those who live in states still under the AWB should verify their receiver is compliant with their states laws.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Huh, I never knew they built complete guns either. Bought several of their receivers back in the day. We assembled several rifles & carbines with parts mostly from Nesard. Built one from a very well worn floor-sweepings parts kit from Sarco. Those Nesard parts made me the AR trouble-shooter I am today.

Yeah, Jerry Drasen (Nesard) had a real mixed bag in most cases - some of his stuff was ok and some was junk. I used to deal with him when I lived up north.

I was going to beg to differ, before the update.
I'm not sure if that phone number is current, but I have purchased an aluminum carbine stock from them in recent years (and also Tony's).
Iirc, the man in Krotz Springs is named Victor.

Web page looks the same ...

i recall their pre-ban receivers being cast. They are now forged. My first SBR was built on an Essential Arms receiver.

I bought and sold a complete rifle long ago. It was a very nice shooting gun from my recollection.

Essential Arms never sold complete rifles. Like a lot of others back in the day they only sold kits, and they were missing a major part such as the barrel or bolt carrier. This was so they didn't have to deal with excise tax. A phone call to Vaughn at Essential Arms will confirm this.

Then as now, they don't carry or sell barrels.

When I had my FFL I ordered an Essential Arms lower or two for a few guys who had them put together on "surplus" kits and these never gave them any problems. They never complained about them if fact they wanted me to get into the AR game but I was too much in love with the M-14. Colt SP1s were around $180 shipped and I could not get myself interested in them like the other shooters did.
