Sling for a bolt action

Is there a specialty brand/model of sling/system for a bolt action rifle that you guys particularly like/use. One that would carry really comfortably.

I know a simple hunting sling will work but I thought I would ask in case there's something cool that I've missed....hadn't bought reg style rifle slings in years.

I like Brownell's "Latigo" followed by the "Montana Sling" for my bolt and SS rifles. Both are leather and easily adjusted, they also smell good and look neat.

I don't use slings rigged up like a target shooter and don't really carry rifles very far or for very long these days. For a comfortable carry sling, I'd pick one of the wide padded ones made with suede or other non-slip material.

The Montana runs around 30 bucks and the Latigo is a bit over 50 if you have a Brownells account.

There are 10 gazillion different brands/styles of slings.

What do you want this sling to do?

I find the Viking Tactics VTAC two-point sling to do everything I need a sling to do.
Get the padded model.

I have this on one of my Savage 270 win and I like it. I forgot where I got it but I looked it up from the tag on the sling. Mine is black but you can get different colors including camo. It can be adjusted really quick and easy.

For my rifles that I carry for long distances I have a wide padded sling. I tend to use shooting sticks or bipods as support and the sling is used only for carry.

On my rifles that I carry and shoot without support, I use the Super Sling. It is easily and one handed pulled out to allow for it to be used as support. And when done, a quick tug pulls it back tight for carry. They make a nylon style and a "rubberized" type. Both work well, but I like the "rubberized" because it has some grab to it and doesn't slip off my clothing, especially when I am wearing a jacket.

WEG, I want to carry comfortably, deploy pretty easily and be really secure....I grew up with those leather ones with a 3 inch fixed shoulder pad and they were horrible...Tried some really adjustable ones in the early 80's ones but they were slick and hard to carry.

I was just looking for experiences with ones that worked for you guys before I spent 30+ buck s and hated it. It will be used for a real heavy (for me) bolt and will probably just use it to carry to the blind. My RA is getting worse and it's getting much harder to just carry one with no sling.

I have to buy swivels too.

Ive used the leather old style (with the brass hooks) military slings on most of my rifles, AR's and AK's exempted. Once I get the sling adjusted for shooting it stays there as it will sling over a shoulder and still be ready to take a shot. Like the other guy said, don't carry a rifle for long distances anymore.

What are you trying to do with this sling? Carry only? Hunt?

If for carry only... WEG is on the money. I like the VTAC and Blue Force Gear 2pt slings. Quickly adjusted and they will last a long time vs. the cheaper synthetic sporting slings. Zero maintenance compared to leather.

If you are using it for stabilization, Artful is on the right track with the Ching sling concept. It works in multiple positions, and the concept can be adapted to other slings. Mark the sling positions for clothing adjustments (summer or winter) or positions.

Andy Langlois @ shottist.com is a stand up guy. His slings are popular with the Scout rifle crowd. He's probably still on the Yahoo Scout Rifles group.

If you're carrying a lot then get the wide shoulder pad. Mine has a thumb loop as well and mine you can adjust with one hand, not sure if this one is same design?

I have used an M1 Web or M1907 sling and have grown fond of them. But I am also looking for other options.
