Ruger Wrangler

First I have seen of these and they look pretty good for the money. At the price you could buy two or three and have real fun setting up shooting games with your friends.

I happened to look at a new Ruger Bearcat in stainless with the birdshead grip yesterday. It was truly amazing how poorly it was built as it would not go to full cock most of the time, the hammer would come back maybe halfway and stick and if you did get it to full cock, it would only drop to the halfcock when the trigger was pulled. I took the cylinder out and the hammer and trigger worked better (base pin only installed) but still not 100%. Then I tried to put the cylinder back in and gave up after about a half hour of dicking with it. The base pin would not go in and it seemed the cylinder was always cocked in the frame no matter what I did. So many burrs and very sharp edges on it too. It looked cool with its short barrel and grip but it was a true piece of inoperable junk as it came from the factory. It was obvious that it was never run through an outgoing inspection.

The "Not for sale in Minnesota" peaked my interest, so I dug deeper. Aluminum frame, Zinc grip frame.

I would not rate the Ruger name on the side as any better than the Heritage Rough Rider 22 revolver, which can be found for <$150. YMMV.

Rough Rider is heavy for its size but they run like a champ, plus the price includes a magnum cylinder.

At 30 Oz, seems a lot heavier than my 1964 Bearcat.

Yeah, I like that one too. Man, thought I had posted in this thread but guess I didn't. I think they look pretty cool.

I clicked this thinking that Jeep Wrangler had come out with a Ruger Edition.

First off, thank goodness they didn't.

Second off, I'm torn between the Black and Silver. I like the Burnt Bronze, but I don't think it looks good on this particular gun. (Maybe that color just doesn't belong on revolvers?)

Looks like they are pricing at $200.

I need one.

And I think these look much better than the Heritage Rough Rider.

Colt made the SA frontier Scout 22rf with an aluminum frame back in the 60s.
It sported the same absolute crap rounded front and frame notch rear sights, though it at least also sports a Rampant Stallion,,,
Mine was handed down to me, is now handed down to my son and has held up to just thousands and thousands of near misses over the years...

Does Minnesota ban guns based on metals used?

That's really odd. maybe they think it can get through a metal detector?

I searched and found this:

Quote:
Minnesota
The state of Minnesota defines a Saturday Night Special as a pistol other than an antique firearm or pistol where the frame, barrel, cylinder, slide or breechlock is composed of any material with a melting point of less than 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit; or the pistol has any material having an ultimate tensile strength of less than 55,000 pounds per square inch, or any powdered metal having a density of less than 7.5 grams per cubic centimeter. This laws states that any federally licensed firearms dealer who sells aSaturday Night Special pistol, or any person who manufacturers or assemblesa Saturday Night Special pistol in whole or in part, shall be guilty of "agross misdemeanor." This law was passed in June, 1975.
WTF...some ignornat stupid-ass law from the 70's to try and ban 'cheap' firearms to try and control crime?

Seems this was the assinine gun ban rage in the mid 70's:

Hmmmm. If this law were interpreted explicitly, very, very few of the guns on the market today may be legally sold in Minnesota.

Any "pistol has any material that has an ultimate tensile strength below 55ksi" is verboten to sell.
Many aluminum alloys fall short of this ultimate tensile strength.
Polymers? Any polymer part and the pistol qualifies.
Wood? Like those grips?

Also in true American fashion, we have mixed units:
The tensile requirement is given in PSI.
The density in metric.

Do they sell handguns without grips in MN and let the buyer assemble the Saturday-Night-Special on their own?

A bud brought his new Wrangler by the Casa last night for show and tell. He paid $189 plus tax, etc. The silver/black one. I was favorably impressed but won't be swapping off my Single Six for one.

I fondled one last week and they didn't have the color I wanted. Fit of the grips was bad on the sample I tried. I will buy one when the color I want is available at the LGS.

The Uberti looks nice but at Budís the Uberti is $482 and the Ruger $210. Not really Apples to Apples.

Caveat emptor!

The text on Uberti's website says its a 12 shot.
The photos and the video there strongly indicate it is a 10 shot cylinder (similar to the Ruger Single-10).

Uberti Stallion

Uberti Stallion

Two different revolvers. Uberti makes and sells the 1873 Cattleman 22 12 shot. The 10 shot model is the Stallion. They must be saving money by using one video.
