September 1st - My favorite day of the year in KY

Jeep - Check
Sunflower patch - Check
Shotties - Check
Shells - Check
Cooler loaded - Check
Bucket - Check
Baggies & wet wipes - Check

Legal shooting time on opening day of dove season is 11 am.

Waiting until around 4 or so when they really start flying is almost unbearable

I only see enough shells there for about 10 minutes of shooting. I thought a flat was the bare minimum one took on opening day.

Isn't that a minimum of 150 shells then,

Your KY dove must slow down for shooting. Sooner does fly like raped apes.

I have 50 rounds of 12ga in the ammo can. If I can drop 5 or so in the first 30 minutes I will switch over to the 20ga. There are another 100 rounds of 20ga

Some years we can limit out within the first hour. Some years not 15 birds in a whole weekend.

The past few days have looked awesome with doves everywhere! Fingers crossed that remains true today

I miss hunting dove and quail. Had a great spot, on public land no less, in SoCal back when I lived down there. Have never found a spot up here in NoCal that you don't have to pay for access, or that wasn't full of stupid people swinging shotguns in every direction. As such, its been almost 20 years since I've hunted upland game.

......
True.

Hunting dove on cut wheat fields near Perris and Sun City, quail outside of Hemet, and near Mentone along the Santa Ana River was some excellent times.

Want to hunt dove and quail, I do that in the back yard. Bloody flying rats they are, shitting everywhere, nearly as bad as those fooking starlings.

Hell yeah. Shooting and drinking is a good time. I need to move. Can’t shoot here off the back porch.
