Rhodesian MK12

Of course they never had this rifle but I'd like to think if they would have eventually the Selous scouts would have upgraded like other Special forces units to modern ARs . This is may be a good representation of that.

Either way troll away

Awesome paint job. but as to use of ARs on Rhodesia I highly doubt it. ARs are very finiky. they don't like being dirty at all. plus 223 is a sucky round.

I'm not a huge AR fanboy but to my knowledge, I decent AR should run in any environment as it keeps out dirt very well however ur mileage may vary but this is 300 blackout , not 223

Here's my old milled AK failing to cycle after covered in dry sand despite being touted as the most reliable gun ever

A2 grips suck.

Fal fans are the only people I've ever met
that like that ugly ass paint.

Waste of an AR with potential.

I live here

No rifle in the hands of a free man is a waste

Don't worry my FAL may be getting the same ugly paint job as well

Looks good!

I think the Rhodesians would have upgraded to the R4 if they would have switched to 5.56mm. Just a guess.

Some American volunteers working as range detectives and farm security carried AR's they brought with them. 5.56 would have suited them fine. Being able to carry double the ammo load out would have been a tremendous benefit.

Nice [shitty] paint job, OP.

Your Mk12 seems to be missing a few Mk12 bits.

I do recall seeing Pics of M16A1's in that shitty war in SOF at that time . Maybe brought to country by SOF or who knows ? A lot of different weapons were used . They used whatever they could / capture after the UN Embargo . M16's and m16a1's have turned up in Mexico and Central America that have serial numbers dating back to Vietnam with US Govt prop marked on them .

RhSAS used M-16A1s towards the end, but they (Rhodesian Army generally)weren't too impressed with intermediate cartridges in the bush as I understand it and they were reserved more for urban usage. Selous Scouts conducted Pseudo Ops, so they had to look like the enemy to do their job correctly much of the time (and therefore they used a lot of ComBloc stuff, whites in the unit wore blackface, etc.)
