Just bought a buffer for my Glock 22 from buffer technologies. haven't shot it yet, but seems like it should work fine. I bought one for my FAL too, but I wont be shooting that until I finish assembly. anyone have experience with buffers in their glocks?

A solution to a non-existing problem. Never add a buffer to any firearm.

I agree. I don't have any experience with them in a Glock, but I tried them in my 1911 and CZ75 and had lots of problems. I started getting FTFs on both pistols (they were both 100% pre-buffer), and they reduced slide travel enough to make the slide stop unreliable. I tossed them in the trash after one range session.

Well, even though I'm doubtful, please do let us know how it works. I had a Buffer Technologies buffer in a STG I owned a few years ago (it came with the rifle when I bought it) and I can’t say it did anything pro or con. However, I did try a buffer in a 1911-type pistol years ago, and I did get malfunctions. Removing the buffer made everything okay again.

I don’t mean to be a smartass about it, but if Glock pistols would truly benefit from the addition of a ninety-nine cent piece of rubber, you would think that Gaston would have included one in the original design.

well the buffer in my glock has worked excellent so far. I have probably shot 250 rounds or so and it hasn't malfunctioned yet.

so, at this point I am happy with what it does. It makes sense that it would slow the wear and tear on the gun by cushoning the slide to frame impact.

don't know if there are any good tests out there to prove it though.

I have shot a Glock 18 with over a half million rounds through it. (much of that Izzy +p+ heavy ball ammo) that shot perfectly and to factory specs.
There are other Glock 9mms that I am aware of with a million plus rounds down range, again with the original frame, slide and barrel. I don't see the need for a buffer to "reduce wear". All a buffer does is make a great, reliable platform much more likely to malfunction when you might need it. BTW- I have been a Glock armorer for over 15 years now, so I do know a little bit about the platform.

sorry, it just sounded a little arrogent how you said that. I do believe the Glock is an excellent weapon and probably doesn't need a buffer, but what the heck it is fun to try it out. seriously though, thanks for the info because I don't have much experience with the Glocks.

Not trying to be arrogant, just giving my bona fides as it was. I maintained approx 250 g22/23s at my old agency when I was the range master/armorer/chief firearms instructor. Our SWAT pistols shot a couple of thousand rounds a month. Other than some faulty intensifer tubes in the night sights the one time we didn't use Trijicon or Glock factory the guns worked and worked. I have seen too many aftermarket products screw up the function of a firearm over the years. Like the plug that goes in the aft portion of the grip on a Glock. If you have a bad stoppage and have to rip and strip a round, where are you going to put your thumb to grasp the mag now?
For casual shooting, try a buffer and even a plug if you so desire. I just wouldn't carry one like that if my or someone elses life depended on it.

Think about this:

When, not if, that buffer eventually gets chewed up it WILL clog up the gun. I have seen this happen first hand with an AK buffer that promptly got tossed out.

So just make sure you check the integrity of the thing. IIRC blackjack buffers was making different buffer hardness levels to address this problem. It's only a VERY high round count issue though so it may not apply.

Just say no to buffers. If you can't handle the recoil, switch to a smaller caliber. If you don't think the gun can handle the amount of use, you should get a new gun.

Out of curiosity, how did you talk your Sheriff into a Glock 18?

I watched the video of the guy who filled his Glock with rock salt and sand, and it still fired!

So, I guess sticking a buffer in it won't hurt it.

we use glock to attach our boat keys to here in orygun ...so they float if they go over the side..hehe

if your load and your recoil springs are in cahoots ...you wont need one ...thats why they make so many different LB springs ....
put a full house load in a 45 ...with a stock 12 lb spring ...you bet youll need one ...with an 20 lb spring ....no need .its not over travelin ....just a nice fluid cycle .......


buffers are for aspirin ,duplex shotgun ammo and waxing cars ...thats about it ....

hELL ... I was just postin' to help keep the glock file open ... like me, it's 'bout dead in here ...

you just can't fancy up a Glock ... not much to talk about I'm guessing ...

I heard they dropped one out of a chopper one time ... that was yrs back ... I don't remember if they found it or not ...

what we need is a good Glock/gunplumper thread ... he's alway in on a round or two !! ... he don't like Glocks ? ... can't seem to get him going here ...

he likes AKs !! ... ask me how I know ...

I'm going up to the AK files and visit ...

I got to shoot about 400 rounds from the G18 at the Glock three day transition course in Smyrna, GA. The G18 was a former Virginia PD (Herndon as I recall) that had over 550K rounds through it at the time. We would shoot the pistol hot, leave the slide locked back and dunk it an ammo can of water to cool it, then start shooting again. We shot 1k of Izzy +p+ heavy carbine ball (black tip) without a hiccup. Wish I had one for cc!

I have 3 Glocks, 17, 20 & 22 (3 barrels)..the 20 I use for hunting carry..it has most everything you can install on a Glock (within reason)..I shoot hot, medium and even (oh hate to say) lead ammo in it, I have titanium parts, steel parts and plastic parts..It has so many rounds thru it I can't count...no problems what so ever, and I don't expect any..some folks look for problems, anticipate problems and even fabricate problems to just have something to talk about, to feel "IN"...put whatever you want on your Glock if you do have problems look to see why, may not have anything to do with the "add ons"...Buy More Glocks...

I use one in my G-17 when I shoot +P loads. Not sure if it helps or not. The way they install in a Glock it would be hard for it to come loose and jam the gun. Totally different installation in a 1911 though. It could get chewed up, break apart and cause problems.

Now for what it is worth, I personally don't believe one needs a "buffer" for a Glock pistol period. Something to add on to fix a problem that NEVER existed in the first place.

I have a friend, that has had his Glock pistols (2) for many years (18) now and put over 50,000 rounds through both his guns. They have been replaced recently with new factory parts and new barrels. Glocks will go a long time between over-hauls.

Exactly! The whole Glock frame is a buffer. Adding a buffer is trying to fix something that isn't broken.....and a waste of money.

My G33 (.357 SIG subcompact) hurts my hand for two days after I shoot it (approx. one day, 23 hours, 59 minutes , and 59+ seconds longer than whatever I shot it at). I don't suppose a buffer would reduce the felt recoil and I fear that it could lead to failures as they reportedly did in 1911 pistols.

I ran buffers in my 70-series Gold Cup for many years. While I never had a failure, the darn things sure did chew up and needed constant replacement to be reliable.

Glock + buffers = WHY?

If Glock needed a buffer, Gaston woulda put one in!

I have a G26 that has thousands of rounds through her. Wolf, US commercial, Euro commercial, Euro surplus, Izzy surplus, Izzy subgun ammo, handloads. I clean it up with Simple Green every couple of years. Don't need no stinkin buffer!! But I could use a bayo lug
