Garand with laminated stock

I bought these laminated stocks for research when I was going to assemble the Garand of Last Resort.

They are nice, but I don't know. The Garand of Last Resort has been superceded by the Blaster AR-15, so I think I am going to return this Garand to a traditional hardwood GI stock.

Walnut wood will work wonderfully well!

Great looking stock Mebs! If I ever decide to build another Garand it is going to have a laminated stock. The colors just pop out to me.

I have one in a green pepper laminate also. It is kinda fat. I think I like a slimmer profile but am not real worried about it.
What bothers me is I have not shot it yet.
And here also, the AR gets the nod.

A good laminated stock is amazing and damn near indestructible...
I had one on a win94 that spent a week underwater and was beat to death on different truck 94's for years. Even on it's third rifle with a ton of use and abuse, when I finally gave it to a friend, you could hardly find a checkering point than was marred..

Years ago I was helping my LGS when a guy came in wanting to see what the problem was for his new garand stock. He couldn't get it to fit. Well, it turned out to be a Boyd's green laminate stock for an M1A. No wonder it didn't fit. He told me to toss it in the trash and he would order the correct one for his rifle. I gave him the correct part number and $50 for his old one. He refused the money so later on I had the store owner put it in as store credit for the customer. They do look good on those old rifles.

Started messing around with Garand stocks and was reminded why I got the laminated. I was tired of compressed, filthy and cracking antiques, especially the handguards.

Late 80's worked at a gun store on long island. Guy brought in about 20 pieces that had been through a house fire and were submerged in a basement full of water for over a week. Everything there was trash,,,except for the laminated 94 stock, which I salvaged..

Got confused, earlier, thought Mebs had posted these pictures.

Are ya left handed, shoot left handed?

Reason I ask, got a friend that's a lefty, and he's looking for a leather stock piece like yours for his M1D.

Or it that one one just flipped over???

I do like the lighter colored unit.
I not that long ago replaced my much too bulky target type stock with a standard GI configuration which I like better. If I had known I would have gone with a laminated standard GI stock.

I'm right handed but left eye dominate so shoot lefty. I cant remember where I got that left hand cheek-piece but will look into it. I'll post results. I think it might have been some place that advertised in Shotgun news, their ads were always a full page of illustrations and never photos....haven't seen one of those (Shotgun News)for quite some time now.
Took me a couple trys to get it laced on correctly but works great.

Edit to add: Found one on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Garand-Leathe.../dp/B00NPWYLCI

Dont know if this is the same on I have or what.

Edit again---Ok I found it--again on Amazon, Pacific Canvas and leather is who I bought mine from.

The Greek return rack grade turned out to be WW2 manufacture in May 1945, the same month my USMC aviation mechanic Uncle Gerard was killed by a kamikaze attack on the USS Bunker Hill off Okinawa. To say it is special is an understatement.
The other one (laminate stock) was a stripped post war receiver I bought at the same time as the greek return rack grade rifle. I think 1952 date. It has a new criterion barrel and as much NOS stuff as I could find in it. Shuff barreled it for me and I'm embarrassed to say I still have not fired it.
One of the bayonets I found at the Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok, Thailand on one of my many trips to Thailand.

I have two shinai in case I have opportunity to spar with someone

Right there with ya Mebs. Happened across an all correct 42 Garand at my favorite gun store that the previous owner/ builder had put one of those laminated Boyd's stocks on and knew that it needed to be rescued and rehabilitated. Just so happens to have a spare walnut stock at the house so took the Garand home and after refinishing it put it on the Garand and now all is right with the world. Some day when time can be found the Boyd's stock will get put up for sale.

Yes those are Boyds. I might use the brown one for something. They take some fitting. Used GI on the other hand drop in, but usually have cracked handguards, or they crack when you start fussing with them. Always a trade-off.
