Winchester (Olin) customer service

So I bought a box of 150 Winchester 9mm ammo at Walmart the other day. We were headed up to the shack and I was a little low on 9mm. The box said "FMJ Brass Jacketed Lead Core".

Turns out they are brass jacketed steel case ammo which will not be introduced to my Hi Power.

So we stopped at Walmart on the way back but I discovered there are no ammo returns at Walmart. So I'm pissed.

I call up Winchester at 7:30 PM and leave a complaint message. I figure that I'll never hear back from them and I'm out $25.

Nope. I get a call at 8:30 AM the next morning from Winchester. The lady says she doesn't know how she'll fix my problem exactly but that I can rest assured they will make it right. She was just calling to let me know the wheels were turning.

I'm impressed. Even if they never get it right, at least they reached out to me.

It is sad that the bar has gotten so low that just a returned call is enough to make a fellow smile. But good on them. I figured you all should know. If I remember, I'll keep this thread updated. Maybe someone could remind me with a PM if I forget.

No store I know of exchanges ammo. Maybe a Mom and Pop.

I would have just given it to a buddy, not contact the company
for my brain fart.

My limited experience with Olin's customer service has been pretty good.

They redeemed several sleeves of defective primers and replaced the ammo I had loaded with that lot in 'equivalent' factory stuff.

We used to know a customer service rep at Federal
He spent his days answering all customer complaints regarding their ammo & G-d he had some stories to share.

With American manufacturers the general rule of thumb is the Customer is ALWAYS Right
Blown up gun, he replaced it and sent a stack of free ammo cupons from Federal
Defective ammo, more cupons
complain about duds in a 50 round box of .22 rimfire, get a free 500 round brick

Yeah some assholes abuse this badly but it's pretty much industry wide in America.

Same with defective guns
learned this when I was a wee child
Buddy gave me an Ithica 66 single shot 12 gauge, frame was broke in two
I took out my pencil and penned up a letter telling them it was a present from Gandpa.
Well after a month I get a letter to return it
Couple months after that UPS shows up with a new in the box 20 gauge M66 addressed to me, a 12 year old
Parents about shit

Had a number of other broken guns flat replaced in the 70s & 80s

A few firearms companies are still into this
Glock in particular does their best to satisfy the public to prevent negative reviews. Taurus is great as are most of the real el' cheapo pistol makers

Well been doing this for over four decades bubba, you tend to meet plenty of folks. btw, Federal is in MN

Gee, so is Coonan and a bunch of other Gun corps huh ?

So what do you have in gun based industry Oregon ways ?
Like mostly nothing...

Don't be such a whiney little kunt
only natural folks in gun zones meet folks in industry

The Federal guy was young, took it as basically a telemarketing job, wasn't even gun people when he started in the 90s
the idea was to satisfy all consumer complaints 44
he told they had multiple complaints yearly on blown guns, they just made the owner whole again regardless of fault which was MUCH cheaper than fighting bad publicity

Don't be the Meathead

NODAK AK and AR receivers are from here
A few FAL receivers
M14 receivers

What does OryGONE produce other than Meth Tweekers

Brass case and steel jacketed doesn’t make sense. I’ll send you some ammo. I only go to Walmart for ChiXX and beers

Along those lines, Olin paid me for my defective primers and made good on the repairs for my Savage M10, that got it's bolt face flame cut by them. Paid for all the shipping with prepaid labels. Only thing I had to do on my end was get the rifle to a local UPS hub. Took a while, but they squared it.

Some of you characters are just waaaay to sensitive

Look, these days OR & WA are little different from CA
All three States still have many GREAT people, that's why I continue to oppose not doing business with California...all we do is punish the wrong folks

tdb brought up Leupold, they employ nearly a 1000 people...Great company but they simply are NOT a gun company.

E&L ?
When was the last time they offered AM180s ?
Calico claims they are building now, don't see them real life much anywhere though
Crimson Trace is dead, all they do is import Chinese crap branded in their name now.

You do have others you missed:

Bowers suppressors...an affordable line of cans with a serious cult following

Danny Tanner of Tannerite fame...yeah the exploding line of targets

both are less than happy with the political climate in their State
truth be told folks in the industry started a slow exodus back in the 90s
Tanner has went through all sorts of shit, even multiple raids by State authorities

As far as Cold making people stupid
I wager Oregon will have recreational Meth before Minnesota has recreational Marijuana
Chew on that awhile before you spit

getting back to the thread, again many companies at least did this...quite a number still do

I have sent in a used Hawke Eclipse that was damaged in transit, side of the scope caved in, lens shattered
They sent me a RMA and replaced it FREE with a new scope, that was like 4 years ago.

Leupold is extremely solid on this too

Thing is, don't email...call customer service and praise the products, become the customer they do not wish to lose

actually a bit of both TR
Anyways my initial point was to a Jackass who found it incredible that someone who has been part of the industry for some 40 odd years might have met other players with in it.

Guy's been trolling me for months, every time he snuggles up to a bottle the spew erupts like a burst pimple.

Fact is, over all the Gun industry has been extremely effective at taking care of their consumer base, this has been going on for many years
Firearms themselves, optics, ammo, etc they tend to replace often even if it's out of warranty or was purchased 2nd hand.
It's all about being able to effectively communicate with CS

The domestic Tool industry used to be grand for this
I once was a sucker for beat up Snap On and SK wrenches as you could easily exchange them, even Craftsmen was that way. Today I have tool boxes of mostly new tools I swapped out years ago.

Some knife companies used to be wonderful, pretty sure Buck will still swap/repair broken shit

I was just a bit surprised how few folks seem to realize there are still companies that place the consumer Number One
Again domestic ammo companies do this to suppress any possibility of complaint reaching the public. Same reason Glock does it with major failures. Beretta was doing it big time too when they started having initial failures with the US made guns.
The seriously cheap guns are all mostly nearly unlimited warranty, like Hi Points.

Think about it
practically no other industry sector does this other than arms
Microtech has rebuilt a few springers for me.
Sent one of their early OTFs off last year that was extremely beat. Came back like new

I would say, as a whole, gun and gun-related industries have had CS superior in every way to about any other industry for me.

Adams Arms. Bought a kit with their low-mass carrier. Got a standard carrier. Called, they overnighted me the right one. Called the next day asking how to get the other back to them, I get "keep it, you'll use it for something. I did.

RCBS I was moving, managed to break my acrylic for the powder dump on my Pro 2000, purely my fault. I call them, they take all my info, I ask how they'd like me to pay. Said buy some more of their products, this was on them. I did. Called another time with a problem. CS guy says I've got another hour to go, can I call you when my shift on the CS phones is over, and I can talk you through it. Managed to figure out by the symptoms an old primer had fallen into the works in a hidden spot and stayed on the phone with me until it was functioning.

Leupold. Bought a Deltapoint USED. Month or so later I'm at the NRA convention here in town and speak to the Leupold folks (and met the hottest woman on the planet at the same time, who I asked if she'd be insulted if I told her such, she wasn't Jessie Duff (now Harrison after her divorce) and tell them I'm missing a part. They take my info, tell me they'll send me a parts catalog for the Deltapoint. Part I need arrives instead. I've bought more Leupold stuff since.

On the cheapie side, at that same NRA convention, ran into the owner of Sun Optics. Bought an inexpensive scope for a cheap AR build, but I was more likely to get the same answer from my magic 8-ball than I was to hit the same place with that damned scope. Tell the guy about it, and he's like " was that the one with the ……" Yeah, it was. He hands me a catalog, said China fugged him, but he's steadily making those right (this was probably 2 years later). Says pick a few things I'll ship 'em to you. Here's my card, and he wrote down his personal direct email. I for get about it, come across the card a couple of months later. Figure what the hell, email the guy, remind him who I am, and ask for a similar scope, a spotting scope, and a pressure activated combo green LED with red laser. They show up on my doorstep less than a week later. All worked, I keep that light/laser on the home defense shotgun and it works great. Scope is on that same cheapie AR, and I actually use the spotting scope.

All different points in the industry, but all with the same level of service. I've never gotten that anywhere else.

Broke the belt clip on a DeSantis Pocket Tuk IWB holster. Called them up and they had two spares in the mail to me the same day no charge. Great company.
