Lying to Congress is a crime

If that was so most congress people would be in jail,,, that only applies to you and me,,, apparently they have immunity,,, WTF ?
Bearing false witness is their most common practice.

I'm just so happy that YOU are on board with the situation and can finally see it for what is is, Martin.

Praise the Lord!

If one feels he/she would have to lie just don't say anything or do a Hitlarly and say I don't recall.

Saying nothing isn't lying.

Problem solved.

Of course, saying nothing might still reserve your spot on the cattle car, but whatever...

I think Martin just realized that things might just not be on the up and up like he thought for all those decades.

I am going to lie down for a while till the shock passes.

Yep, that's a fact Jack!

What comes after this revelation is still in serious question though.

I got it, a serious letter of protest and a demand they all resign,,,,by Tuesday!

The art of Sophistry was known and taught in ancient Greece.
I have been a proud American and Texan for 84 years, most comments here while cute don't address my accusation,,, in the last 30 years it has finally become apparent that character or the appearance of character and oaths sworn in government service truly does not matter to most people,,, it was not so apparent when I was younger.
I've not been so depressed since learning the Easter Bunny died.

Just a point of view... at 84 you should have a pretty good idea how we have achieved the corruption we have in congress, you lived through it to get here. It would be a book length explanation to show what's different and when it took place for anyone else to get a proper understanding. If you don't know then you should have spent less time with red heads and whiskey and maybe a little more time in church if they would have you.

I Just sighed on and saw your reply.
In defence of my impugned character (by you) I must admit to living in the moment for some time early in my life as a dedicated to the death of me bachelor,,, it is possible, or not that you have experienced something similar,,, before your sainthood was declared,,, by you.
Having pledged my troth and given my oath to my present day wife of the last 46 years any member can now trust me with his naked, nubile teen age female kin,,, I promise not to pat them on their head till their pants fall off.

It is however, quite legal for Congressmen and Senators to lie to Congress. Remember when Harry Greed said that Mitt Romney didn't pay taxes. After the election he was called out on that and he said "It worked didn't it?". It's also legal for members of Congress to engage in insider trading on the stock market. Rules don't apply to them. Good to be immune members of a criminal enterprise like US Government. Not so for the Peasants tho.

Well you just weren't paying attention or were naive, because our pols have always been liars.

Now that you have figured that out, maybe you can move on to the next epiphany, that those same liars were lying when they told you, well...... practically anything.

So all those wars we fought and won nothing over the last 75 years weren't really about what you were told and believed they were about.
Nor were 'our enemies' really our enemies..... well not until we made them so.

But since you already know about truth about the Easter Bunny, might as well know the truth about the War Fairy you have believed in all these years.

About sums it up...

But, in Martin's defense, they have stopped even trying to hide their lies and, on top of that, openly proclaim their hatred of the US Constitution. You know, the Constitution they've all signed an oath to support and defend but now work hard to destroy (I think that there's a word for that involving hanging)...

Makes it easier for even the blind to see...

Perhaps it's because 95% of 'filers actually have a life? You can tell from my post count I do.

I only come here to understand why the nation is such a mess.

Yeah and a 80 year old guy that cheers on every war and conflict, who has spent 20 posting in news and current events finally, FINALLY realizing that politicians lie certainly fills a large missing piece of the puzzle.

Having actually participated in the defence of our democracy imbues me with some valid gravitas,,, whether you or I like it or not,,, refer to Freedom of Speech as is currently our present day privilege that is under attack,,, don't try to thank me,,, you wouldn't know how,,,, besides I just did it to make me feel good.
Thank God others feel the same way.

If you are brought before Congress and lie under oath, its a crime. So is it also a crime if you lie to the President? If not,why not? Is he not a co-equal branch? Why cannot those causing him so much grief be charged with obstructing the executive branch? And contempt?

I will attempt an answer here but it won't satisfy anyone. The first amendment to the constitution is about free speech and a free press. What needs to really be understood is its only free speech if it's political speech. Greely and Hearst figured in out long ago and built empires on free speech but the fact is those empires were built on lies. Nothing in the first amendment requires that the truth be told.

What media and politicians do is sell the lie, they sell what people are buying. It's a long established product with newspapers to print what their audience wants and lies sell well. It's like Bubs says, people look for confirmation in what they think and lies confirm what idiots think.

Congress lies because political speech is protected by the first amendment. Media lies because it's the way they use the capitalist system to earn a living. There is no law that requires them to tell the truth and lies are the best seller. None of the liars care what it does to the nation.

Close. They don't make money selling newspapers and magazines, at least not beyond covering the printing costs. What they sell are advertisements, and the intent of advertising is to support the marketing of something by changing the buying public's opinion about it in a positive way. Yours and my opinions, to be precise about it. Effectively they sell our opinions to advertisers who have the expectation that if they pay money and advertise in (radio/tv/newspaper/magazines/internet) the media will see to it that people will advance their opinions of my product over brand x and buy mine.

And remember, you can't sell what you can't manufacture. It therefore follows that the media is in the business of manufacturing opinions about toothbrushes, deodorant soap, cars, food, beer, anything that you see advertised. And it needs to be remembered that they sell advertising to politicos also, so it is not unreasonable to suggest that they are, indeed have long been in the business of remolding opinions about the issues of the day.

It's what they do. They've been doing it forever, their entire business model is based on it. And they're good at it. But you're right about the first part, most folks on their own search for validation, not information. It's part of what makes 'em such easy marks.

If you think about it, when the commies said they would hang capitalist with their own rope they make then it could have meant that capitalism in the media is what will be used to destroy the nation. Media sells bald face lies because people buy them to validate their own thinking. The lies destroy our system yet our very system guarantees the right to lie in politics.

All that was simply yet another in a very, very long list of govt lies you bought.

In reality you defended a corrupt mass murderer and sham democracy who ordered the killing of thousands, including women and children, 1/2 way around the world.
And clearly South Korea was not 'our' nor was it a democracy.

When he shovelled the last clump of dirt away, he discovered something which would shake South Korean society. Amidst the soil was something unmistakeable: a child’s skull, with several bullet holes.

We have been over this many times, yet you still want to cling to that particular lie.
But like a lifelong smoker at 80, why give it up at this point?

Horseshit. Martin, and a whole lot of others did. You didn't. This simple fact needs no more embellishment or equivocation, particularly from the likes of you.

I must assume only you can be the one to decide what the truth is,,, in your opinion you are free to liable anyone who does not agree,,, I don't agree,,, you are nullified,,, and not just by me,,, it's pretty much a Forum wide consensus.
That said I'm left to conclude there is nothing worth dying for,,, in your opinion,,, this nation would never have been founded and would cease to exist if you were even a little bit right,,, so would three times as many South Koreans as there are North Koreans,,, I didn't kill them all,,, I was too busy shooting Chinamen,,, and now you can enjoy Freedom of Speech without having lifted a finger or pulling a trigger,,, you are qualified to be a U.S.Congressman ..

Do you really believe North Koreans are better off than South Koreans?
Seriously?

Degrees of Mendacity!

So on the premise that world communism, is a consequence of financial and political support of Marx's and Engels's ideology, by wall st. of the day - attacking little old NK(well it was Korea at the time) 50 plus years later for being communist, is kind of like inventing, and then exploiting a reason for going around the planet shooting yer gun at unarmed minorities as they run away!

Forcing democracy on another, is also like saying; believe in my religion, or we will kill you - for your own salvation!

Mistaking patriotism for doing ones duty, is also abrogating responsibility for any crime - he told me to do it, is hardly any defense. But then suckering generations into doing what might be considered/argued as morally correct - isn't if you were lied to in the first place, it just makes one a sucker!

So those that lie and 'convince' perfectly good, yet naive young men to go overseas and do their duty - if a crime is discovered, usually it's becomes the soldier that gets punished - not the order giver! A certain disconnect has be engineered, surely?
The media is always complicit in the telling of the lie - the lie that sends those perfectly good honorable men to do the dirty work of the elite, and die possibly a horrible death - and then if they don't die, are just maimed - then to deny them any consolation!
The media then huffs and puffs and gets all serious - and the watcher just stuffs another fistful of Nachos into it's face, and farts indifference - Weird how it is allowed to continue!
Yet waking up to the lies, by overcoming the conditioning has got to be hard - it is a dissolution of a very - raison d'être!

I am personally antiwar as hegemony - but not as defense! LappGoch - the Welsh art of self defense - attack, before they even think of attacking!

I believe if we had stayed out of it, and we were in it deep right from the start, that the Koreans would have fought it out, reunited and be doing fine.
So there wouldn't be any N or S Koreans.

As proof see VN.
Once we got our dumb meddling asses out of VN, it was quickly over, the country rebuilt, went semi capitalist and guess who we are courting to be our new bestest friends?

Instead we installed and backed a mass murderer, lost 34K US lives, another 1/2 million of so ally and enemies lives, and 2.5 million civilian lives.
Then had to prop up SK for next 65 years, with troops and $$$.VN
Plus NK HAD to go nuke to keep us at bay.

You don't see VN shooting off test rockets and rattling the silos do you?

No Martin, the truth just is what it is.
Your pal Rhee WAS a MASS MURDERER of unarmed men, women and children and WAS quite corrupt.
That is the facts.

But since your youthful Korean adventure was the high point of your life, it is understandable that you want to go on believing that you were protecting the US, the Constitution, freedom, democracy and other falsehoods.

There is no doubt you or J will never be mistaken for patriots, neither of you fit the mould. Both of you would let some dumb sob do the fighting for you and both of you would live off the fruits of the land for free. In a real world you wouldn't get full citizenship because you are not full citizens. However the good men that died to preserve that right for you deserve greater respect from you.

We allied with Stalin to stop the Axis,,, Stalin went back if he ever stopped to his old ways,,, South Korea seems to have become one of the most dependable and prosperous Allies in Asia,,, thanks in part to my and a couple of others efforts.

Amazing what billions of dollars in US tax money can do.

Of course, SK Korean students are far higher ranked than US ones.

They just 'create a false narrative'.

The whole of the peninsula would have turned out like a North Korea.
Viet Nam wasn't "quickly over". Ask the Cambodians.
And even when we F-up,as a nation, people still have the golden dream of migrating here. I don't see throngs trying to sneak into North Korea. Or even China. Hell, anywhere else. Maybe Europe? But that's for the free crap and bennies, and rape sex. Once Europe gets tired of their crap and starts lopping heads off, they'll go back fast.
