Yay, we hit page 2! The prime rib shot in Mark60s post got me thinking about the smoker chickens and smoked ribs that Sportsnut would turn out... dayum there were some good years of eating out of his smoker, after he and Jason worked their magic and a bottle of pendleton into the meat. The potluck years were something to behold. ABTs off PSL54's grill, oysters from otis, dutch oven beans from brush411(he used to have 5). One of these days, I am gonna have to learn how to handle meat like Sportsnut does: lube it up and drop it into that moist and smoking hot unit.

Best food ever, but those guys didn’t really get to shoot
much because of the time consumption.

I loved cooking breakfast for everyone. One thing I am
good at in life. But when we hit over 20 people it got crazy.
When sportsnut said he was done, I was too, and grateful
he said it first.

T bone for Pluskats breakfast. My tour de force.

Hope you are well.

Oh, them boys were taking plenty of shots! Just not with their rifles...
To think they were piling up enough meat to satisfy a crowd like we had! Sometimes 40 eaters in the chuck line. The first time I saw Sportsnut in action, was Sisters. Making sausage rolls and beef ribs in camp. I thought he was nuts to "try and pull that off" in camp, heh, didnt have any idea what he and Jason would be graduating up to. He prolly didnt either!
Another Sisters special, Jerrymrc made thai and introduced me to MaePloy curry paste. Oh man! That has stuck with me since. Got two flavors in the fridge right now, coconut milk in the cupboard and a little fish sauce too. Cant beat a fresh spicy curry.

Nothing like the sound of a .50bmg at 06:30, to letya know that was a whole bottle emptied last night. It was the most joyous headache I ever had. Cant say the same for some of the others, as the bottles they emptied were not beer...

Probably my best shots ever, a 40rd can, at 1000yds, with irons. The spotter called very few in the dirt! Thanks for loading those for us, Tuscan Raider!

I warned you guys. Breakfast at 0700 didn’t mean 0900
roll in asking where food was.

I broke a tricep muscle believe it or not on that shoot.

Anyone have PSL 54 video of “ I like guns?”

Just gentle a reminder...

I cannot recall who won the perpetual "Ironsman Challenge" trophy last year when I donated it to the PNW crowd.
Great bunch of peeps however and I hope to make it out there again one of these days

Anyway, whoever won it last year, please remember to bring it back for this year's winner.
It is an annual "perpetual" trophy to be passed on the next year, but feel free to win it again if you can, and take it back home if you do so

Sir,
Thank you for your excellent donation and the reminder that better records be kept, for the annual rotation of trophies. Looks like it went into the trophy sinkhole... Goodluck winning it back guys!

Friday matches, Saturday matches? What do the match ROs have to say about what/when?
Who is volunteering to RO which fields of fire?

Pistols
Drop 15
Moses
RowJimmy
Long Range
Ironsman pistol and rifle -RO Sowhawk
3 gun
Kingshot
Anvil shot
Full auto
Can launch

Anyone want to try a 4"/2" group groping competition? Say any gun, any caliber, prone supported, at 100 yards, 5 rds, 2mins, with an irons class and scope class? Most rds inside 4" for irons and inside 2", for scopes?
Edit to add: center to center group size, to settle the tie, when more than one player hits all 5.

Yessir!! I am just standing around flippin grits until there is a meeting of the minds. A certain OP is presumed innocent, until proven guilty, for his tardiness to this phase of the discussion... even though we all know the truth, justice is blind to the shenanigans!

I would divide the attention and add an event selection thread, with a poll, but we wont hit 100 posts on this one, if I do.

I requested time off on Th&Fri for that weekend, so it better be! The loudest noise in the room is still quiet, but I am expecting he will fall in line with the 21st, once he returns to the bullhorn.

I'm not running a 3-Gun this year: it takes 3 guys (hat tip to Brandon and Terry) half a day to run - let alone set up and take down (another hat tip to Greg and Jonathan...). That ^ and Tuscan Raider won't run it...

The (Ahem!) Committee hasn't yet decided on the events in June, but based on some ad hoc discussions with various members, we think that it may look something like this:

1. Friday morning or whenever: 7-Shot/Cowboy Standard (handgun): a long-time and beloved foundation of the Oregon FAL Shoot. Typically Tuscan Raider is the MC of this event, so he's got Right of First Refusal on running it... which he may, in fact, do. May need a volunteer or two.

2. Friday late morning or whenever: Walk and Chew Gum (handgun). All I can tell you is:

a. TR is in charge of this event
b. It'll happen right next to the normal handgun location (facing south along the fence)
c. It'll happen Friday sometime after "7-Shot/Cowboy" and before the "Dos Equis" events that are replacing the 3-Gun thing.

3. Friday after lunch: Ironsman Challenge hosted by snowhawk jockey (pistol and rifle)

4. Friday Afternoon: Dos Equis Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Events - aka "The Most Interesting Shooting Events In The World." Here's what you need to know...

a. tdb59 is running these three separate events - you don't have to do all (or any) of them
b. You may (or may not) need to load on the move. Plan accordingly
c. As usual, there will be a shotgun for the shotgun event - so you don't need to bring one

4. Saturday Morning - whenever 4x401 says "It's Time To Start": Drop 15

Right... Heard the same from Jeff last weekend. It was about 11 when we got going. But he did show up at 3PM like he said he would on Friday.

PS... doing all in my power to make this one. Cruise Monster should handle the trip well, might need a go-fund-me for gas.

Yes!!!!

Totally snuck that in there...

On a serious note, I'm willing to find a volunteer to run side-by-side with you - we could do the 7 Shot Cowboy and send them right over to the Walk & Chew Gum...

Always thought the "Committee" was fake like Area 51 because
I'm not on it after 14 years.

Pretty sure I can manage everything expected of me.

See you all soon.

I hereby nominate Tuscan Raider for service on the official Oregon FAL Shoot committee.

That he may enjoy "In official capacity" the requisite bullshit the rest of us deal with putting this together.

Do I have a second?

Does the requisite BS include when to start on the blue cup?

An opportunity arises to fulfill snowhawk jockey's request for stories and/or memories.

The Committee, both as an idea and as an actual membership, is pretty fluid. It was mostly Marlin and I telling our wives that we had a meeting for the Oregon shoot planning so we could go camping and shooting another weekend. Usually that meant that Rich was going to be there, and Justin might make an appearance. But the history goes back further than that...

In The Beginning... Erik the Red & Dation (Karl) may have suggested that we get together and shoot our FALs. ALL FAL (Big Dave) helped find a place for us to gather and shoot. He also worked his ass off to ferry people on the Tan Pearl out to the Island camping spot, and deserves to be remembered as one of the guys that got this thing going *and* for his generosity of person and time. He also got us together in November in the first-ever 'end of season' / Freeze Your Nuts Off shoot. Those years we either shot in a gravel pit or in some unseasonably hot piece of desert. Targets were: a) rocks, or b) milk jugs filled with water - which had a moderately short work-life. Early participants were Vagabond, Sportsnut, Little Nate, Oregon FALer (Big Nate), Marlin, Erik the Red, Dation, ALL FAL, myself, JDHD Junkie (Greg) and (sorta...) snowhawk jockey - who was more watching from afar than "participating".

Those days had an 'open' shoot (Summer) and a 'private' shoot (Fall), which came about mostly because there was a giant difference of opinion on three things: alcohol + shooting, wearing/carrying hot weapons, and how to 'vet' new participants. If you weren't there, you wouldn't remember that Vanilla Gorilla told one FAL Files member's wife that if she pointed a gun at him again, he would shoot her in the face. In his defense, those people (both husband and wife) were notoriously bad with muzzle discipline, and VG fixed that problem (for us, not them...) permanently - as they got huffy and jumped in the car and left - never to return.

We 'graduated' from rocks and water jugs and wanted to shoot more stuff. We got a tiny amount of AR500 targets and moved to the state gravel pit south of Sisters. We also graduated in terms of cooperation to put the event on - and sportsnut led the way here. Ron offered to the group that he would bring his smoker and his expertise if we would bring the meats. He spent the better part of two days feeding the growing group - and I believe that the rave reviews of the chow were one of the reasons that people wanted to participate in the Oregon FAL Shoot. Participants then included Tuscan Raider, Vanilla Gorilla, Pink308, gaijinsamurai, JerryMRC and MrsC.

After a couple of years in the Sisters gravel pit, we wanted to camp and shoot in the same location - we were isolating Ron and others from the shooting events since they were prepping/cooking AND we were actually shooting a couple of miles away from camp, tents, gear, etc. which gave some people the hink.

So some guys (not The Committee), meaning Marlin, Rich, Vanilla Gorilla, and I agreed we'd try ARPC. Great shooting areas, but *not* great camping, drinking, campfire experience. I don't know if it was a failure or not, but it was cool we got new guys to show up: Otis61, PSL54Junkie, Rich of Oregon, tailback, Tat2, and others.

Vanilla Gorilla let himself out of the planning as the event was growing and he wanted small and private. Fair enough. I think that's when The Committee was formed to find a new location: Marlin, Rich, Justin, me. We scouted around, looked at maps, camped in swamps, and basically failed until snowhawk jockey told us he'd been riding his scooter around in the desert for years, and that we should come look at the current location. Seemed like the only place that would fit our needs, so we settled on it.

Then The Committee changed because of the infamous Third Divorce, wherein Marlin wanted to know: a) "Why we are letting new guys in?", and b) "Where has all the money gone?". In the end I don't think he could handle the competition for the love of sportsnut and fear of losing out on the macrame short-shorts Miss(ter) America pageant. Not that that was a real thing...

After a year or so at the current location, Terry joined The Committee due to his sterling personality and whatever. Actually, he had some good ideas about set up and safety and events, and he volunteered to help us keep the ship more ship-shape.

So I think we'd be happy to make another spot in The (Ahem!) Committee and go to five members: beyond camping at the gravel pit and freezing our balls off in January, we've never really gotten together except by email or PM. We've never voted on anything, and there could easily have been a tie that couldn't have been settled. We don't have any money to distribute, because the Blue Throne rental and paint cans and welding rod cost *way* more than we collect each year.

But in the first ever (!) public business of The (Ahem!) Committee, I hereby propose that Tuscan Raider be admitted to the august body since he has been helping run the damned thing for nearly a decade.
