Nice.....

I'm not sure of the finish on my wood stock as I had someone else refinish it...

Early stg58 kit build:

Kit #176
Original park finish in very good condition
Matching numbers
Dsa type1 receiver, sn 302xxx
Non-horseshoe hanguards (thx capt D)
Ironwood type B stock and pg
Long gas tube
Aluminum charging handle
Std FN gas plug
Beveled trigger guard
Early bipod
(8) stamps

This is probably the earliest stg58 kit in the usa. I have not seen an earlier number, neither had Boman (supplier). The original rifle was probably built in the first few days of production and very lightly used.

Scope and mount are Leatherwood. Art1 with 7.62mm cam and FAL base. You will find the artel and art2 sold on ebay or gunbroker but the art1 is very rare bird since so few were made.

My fresh STG58 build

I've had this parts kit sitting under my work bench for about a decade. Same goes for the Imbel receiver. I them both as soon as we figured out one could here in CA, then never did anything with them. The other day a friend said he wanted to go wild boar hunting, I thought that was a GREAT idea but lamented that I didnt have an appropriate pig gun... then I remembered the .308 STG58. Took the parts to J&G Gunsmithing in Granite Bay, CA and they put it all together for me. Some fine tuning and it shoots like a cadillac.

DSA rail/top cover
Ergo overmolded grip
DSA 10 round mag
RifleTailor CA Bullet Button

Nice CA-compliant rig, Choptop. Nice pic.

My first FAL, an StG (non-matching) on an Imbel NGL receiver, IWD stock (stained beech), and all other parts are Steyr, with authentic StG sling:

Another StG, carbine style, with a blind pinned cut-down original Stolle (barrel woulda been too short without the pinned FH--the threads had a deep cut, and barrel needed to be cut to less than 16" to fix...). Built on an Imbel GL receiver with all Steyr(also non-matching) parts. I have the sling for this one too, just not installed in the photo:

This rifle replaces the rifle above as my working rifle. Saw this all matching numbers refinished Steyr kit on a DSA T2 in the MP not long ago and knew I had to have it. It arrived looking new and unfired.

I added the ARMS mount and scope plus the Flypaper pad cut C stock. Can't say enough good about Fly's work, he fills a gap in the market with a superb product to a level nobody else currently attains.

The rifle has been refinished to like new and was bone dry inside, completely void of all lubrication. Being as such it was very stiff and not smooth at all. A good dose of Kellube and the rifle was test fired.

Not all went well, the rifle would only run with the regulator completely closed. So today I gave the rifle a close exam and further testing. What I found was the gas piston is very tight in the tube. I attribute this to the possibility that there is excess park build up in the tube and to test my theory I simply oiled the gas piston, something I don't normally do.

After reinstalling the oiled piston the rifle ran well on 3, tossing the empties a good and expected distance. When I clean the rifle I'll pay attention to the interior of the gas tube to be sure and smooth out it's interior.
Note, the gas piston is an original StG58 piece and checks out fine.

When the rifle arrived it was wearing new DSA furniture and bed liner (?) coated hand guards. Poo! The grip was replaced with a surplus piece, the hand guards were replaced with original finish Steyr pieces, and the butt stock was replaced by the very fine Flypaper pad cut C you see here with a NOS ferrule. Much better!

The rifle is built on a 2001 19XXX LMT T2 receiver and is the only T2 receiver in my collection. I like it.
So far I've given the scope a rough zero and some test firing to the tune of around 60 rounds but soon I hope to get some quality time to fine tune the scope and be sure the sights are zero'd.

Another great rifle find here on the forums. Many thanks to those who make this a great place to hang out!

DSA/Steyr StG58 Carbine

Built by DSA; bought "new" in 2002. Type III, no carry handle. Rifle is nearly mint with only 95 rounds shot shortly after I got it; zeroed it in and adjusted gas. Shot a 1.25" 5-round group at 100 yds. with iron sights and FNM military surplus ammo. I still have that target; I don't think my old eyes could do that now!
