I thought the course of fire was 85 rifle rounds and 56 pistol rounds?

That is excellent if you are confident in your shooting. Most of us are not quite so confident.

No loose ammo...well, I may bring a few loose rounds and throw them on the road for nostalgia.

Rifle all the things!

Besides the weather, the biggest problems at the Carolina RNG was ammo, or lack there of. The generally unfavorable conditions - mud, sweat, rain, high water obstacles, did I mention the mud, and heat - all worked together to make magazines and weapons not work to full capacity. There were many that simply ran out of ammo towards the end of the course. So the reaction for those that did, or came close, is more is better. If 2X COF is good, then 3X COF is way better.

Nah...lessee:
(6) FAL mags on lower portion of chest
(2) on right side 'girdle band' of carrier
(2) in ancient leather pouch on belt at rear and also connected to bottom of the rear carrier (this helps distribute the load and hold my pants up)
(2) 20rd G19 mags left side 'girdle band'
(1)15rd G19 in at starting line (if I remember this time)
(2) 30rd G19 mags in carrier chest pocket.

The most annoying bouncy mags will get used first.
Prolly stuff a 30rd G19 monopod mag in for the cave.

For the record, I'm carrying 6x25rd .308 and 7x21rd 9mm. Unless I chicken out and strap on an extra 3x33rd 9mm.

10k = 85r / 101p (x2ish = Heavy!!!)

Remember, Group guys like to shoot Sh!t a lot so every pistol target gonna need 5 or more shots to neutralize!

Time to reassess some things, huh?

Not sure yet but not quite as heavy as last year for Legion since I ran Combat class with plates (but they only had 5k) and a little heavier than Matt’s RNG in March since I ran the RFB and a few less mags.

You no run FAL …owyn?

Not this time I'm afraid. I haven't had time to shoot or zero either the G1 or the L1A1, so I'm not confident in their accuracy at an RNG. If I go out there and suck because I suck at shooting and running that's one thing, but if I go out there and suck because I rushed a rifle that I didn't take time to zero/check, then I'd be super annoyed. (cue: steady eddy RNG AR & pistol breaking during run)

You need to draw a little stick figure on the fellowship patch and add "Eowyn" and an arrow.

My plate carrier has a cool spot to put patches, soooo...

I had no idea giving folks options would f$&k so many people up! That surely was not my (or the guys) intent when doing it this way, but I just might have to do this on purpose from now on!

You're even littler than me, but I share your small person pain! You shoot so well, you might not need any more. MIGHT.

You're all trained up from OK and CRNG - I'd love to see you go as light as possible and come out and crush some souls with your run time and shooting ability. You had a certain 5SFG guy all torn up last time with you right on his heels - let's see what happens when you beat THIRTY Special Forces Guys.

I'm giggling already.

But that's easy for me to say - I'm not the one who will risk running out of ammo.

It's genius.

I just had to laugh the other night when I realized I was trying to solve a problem I already had an answer for.

Assuming the 50 pistol and 75 rifle is an accurate option, then I am good.

I am just happy I am going to start with an actual battlepack on me...what fun!

I get it all now. Had long talk with Halfling just now and I was going off his text to me and the event page of 85r/101p. So after the rushed purchase of the four more M&P base extenders and the Warbelt build out, gonna reevaluate some things.

Now you guys have me revaluating my fricking loadout. I was planning on 160 rifle and 175 pistol. But I see that I'm.actually running light with that, which is weird for me. Maybe I should bump it to 200 even for both?

Just like in Afghanistan, it will do nothing but make noise. The cave is way to narrow and winding for a frag to do any good. ;-)

Unless your just trying to seal it up! Which I would not like as the RO on that stage, nor do I think Kelly or Tiger would either!

There is that mystery hole near the entrance that goes downward to god-knows-where. There's no telling WHAT might come crawling out of there in the right circumstances.

Kelly could probably fit through and might find a way out if the entrance collapsed, but I think you and Tiger are stuck.

Reminder: you will need eye and ear protection in order to shoot. Yes, running with eyes and ears on sucks. Either figure out how to do it, or take the extra time to take them off and put them back on again before shooting. But if you show up to a shooting stage without eye and ear protection, you will not be allowed to shoot and receive a ZERO score for that stage.

Also - has everybody figured out by now that Kentucky has hills? Here's the elevation map for the new 10k course. It royally kicked my a$$ on Friday during a weight vest recon run.

And a public service announcement: running it in pants sucked. But running it in shorts would have sucked even more. You do what you want to, but I would STRONGLY suggest long pants, and treating all of your clothing with permethrin. I forgot to treat my socks and ended up with this on both ankles:

Best PSA of the year.

I love you.

Please (I Know! Not my usual persona...), no more posts about anyone fitting or getting stuck in your “mystery hole”!

I owe you bourbon for the chigger warning.

for clarity on the eye protection...it has to remain on to shoot? No looking over edges or throwing away once the stage starts. I don't have this option, so this could be delicious fun for me...or result in a fist fight.

There is a whole lot of working around foggy glasses that gets ignored on the clock if I'm honest. The official range rule is that you must be wearing them. I've done my job by telling you that.

I'd draw the line at throwing them off completely. I'd probably let slide looking over them or under them while still wearing them. I know that doesn't really help you though...

So weíre a little over a week from match day. Iím guessing several of you are second-guessing yourselves right now. Maybe you didnít get in as much training as youíd hoped. Maybe you trained youíre a$$ off and didnít see the results you wanted to. Maybe youíve seen all of these crazy hints and promises about whatís to come, and are intimidated as hell about trying to do all of this while 30-ish bada$$ Special Forces soldiers and even more Run N Gun regulars stand by and watch you.

Donít be. If you signed up and just SHOW UP to start this race, youíre already better than 90% of the shooters out there who stayed home on the couch on match day. If you FINISH, no matter how long it takes you, youíve won. Trust me Ė youíll feel it just as soon as you cross that finish line Ė and for many days (months?) thereafter.

At some point in the course, you will ask yourself: ďWhy on earth am I here? Iím not ready for this. I donít belong here.Ē The dirty little secret I can promise you: EVERYONE asks themselves that at some point. You DO belong here.

The satisfaction and self-image you will get from just finishing this course will stay with you forever, and is something no one can ever take away from you. Many people have found matches like these to be a turning point in their lives, and in a year or two you may not even recognize the person you have become. Just remember - for every person you see pass you, there is someone behind you wishing they could keep up with you. Look behind you every so often just to acknowledge how far youíve come.

And before ANYONE judges anyone else as being "too slow, too fat, or too lazy" - bite your tongue and listen to their story first. Across the country at matches like these we've had people recovering from recent strokes, heart attacks, cancer, pregnancy, amputations, and any other issue you can think of; just because "F#$K CANCER", that's why! Give them an encouraging word when you pass them - it really makes a difference.

Even better - if you pass someone really struggling on the course: finish your race, set down your gear, and run back out to find that person. You can run beside them and offer them all the words of support and encouragement that you can think of - you just can't physically help them in any way.

Let's do this.

It was support like this that got me to commit, enter and complete my first run and gun this year. Plus the encouragement along the course to "keep going" and "you are almost there" gave me the will to finish. And I actually did better than I expected - not last.

This match is now on my bucket list. I may not be able to compete in a Legion match, too old and decrepit to even compete with those young (Ĺ my age) studs. But I am now looking forward to some 5K races to run in the future.

So as kotengu posted, support those in your race and on the course. Give them the encouragement you would a team mate. Because in the end, you are all one team, a fellowship of kindred souls.

I am going to blame my dentist for giving me some stuff after the wisdom tooth extraction for making me so maudlin.

This is awesome, Tac - thanks for sharing! You can totally do Legion. Plan on being there next year (closest weekend to 9/11, assuming enough 5SFG guys are on this side of the pond at the time to make it happen).

k, I WILL be there next year. I will R/O for you. I want to make sure I can be competitive, ie., be able to overcome most of the course obstacles, before entering. No need to take up a slot if I can't do the course. But you can plan on me being available to help you guys out.
