OK,I'm done with Apex

Wanting another AK this time a underfolder, I ordered a kit from Apex. When I began the build I had a lot of trouble installing the pins in the stock and finally called Apex and wanted a return label to get a refund, after quiite a bit of trouble printing their labelI was told I must send pictures of the problem parts, which I did and was told they were barrel populating pins and not the pins for an underfolder stock? I told them just send my money back, please? They informed me there would be either a 10 or 15% restocking fee? I quickly emailed them for a reply asking why when they didn't supply me the correct parts but, alas no hope! So, they lost my business.
End of rant!
Steve

The latch on the side of a UF stock has small pins.

So you have no idea what you're doing -you have never built an AK before, and it's APEX's fault? Not sure your business is something they would miss. In fact, early identification of unreasonable people is a valuable business resource.

AKs are considerably more difficult and resource dependent than FALs. I offer an excellent tutorial on the subject, which would help you determine which are FSB and GB pins and which are UF pins. I'd have thought it could be determined from 20' away, but then I know what they are supposed to look like, as does APEX, and you apparently do not.

You ordered a kit, and got block pins as you should. So are you saying you received an incomplete UF mechanism? Is that your complaint? Itís difficult to determine with all the chaff.

I'm thinking that may be the case. Missing UF mech pins.

I'd ask APEX for the missing pins (assuming they are indeed missing).

Worst case scenario, just make new ones. They're just pins, its not rocket science.

I have had many dealings with APEX over the years and only one time did I get some bad parts. They corrected the issue immediately.

I'm assuming you are talking about part(s) number 4 here:

great tutorial on assembling it here: http://www.novarata.net/ak-underfolder/AKbuild3.php

I'm sure Apex will be fine with sending you 3 pins if you call them. They have new US made ones here:

I ordered a kit from them, it was missing one screw, and they were more than happy to send me a replacement. Out of the many parts and kits I've ordered, been more than happy so far.

I never , ever had a bad go around with Apex
The closest I got to a bad one was when I bought 5 demilled Galil receivers , I'd swear they were cut with a template or guide or something
Not one piece overlapped

Presumably. Sounds like the OP might not have gotten the response he was after, or perhaps realized his error, and preferred not to belabor the point.

Indeed, but it takes a lot for many men to publicly admit they were mistaken.

Guess AKs will do that shit to you. That's why I stay away from them. Bad juju. Russian collusion or something like that made him do it.

I'm still curious as to whether or not the pins in question were missing, or mistakenly swapped for shorter 3mm component pins, or?

Did you ever get that figured out OP? If its a simple case of missing pins, or improper pins included with the kit, I'm sure APEX will correct it.

..... as far as a family comparison goes....they are a bit like that distant Uncle that only shows up around holidays...he smells funny, has lots of magazines in brown paper bags and the rest of the adults don't like leaving the kids around him.....

Jeeps must be pretty good. They now have a US market for the curry powered ones made from original 1947 Willys Overland machine tools.

...... I believe it is mostly your emission laws, Toyota excels in their diesel 4x4 range, I think very very few of these have made it to the US as they struggle to meet those laws. The heaviest duty of their trucks (not biggest, just most robust) are pretty much only made in diesel or just don't make as much sense in petrol (gasoline) engine varieties. Even the 200 Series you get in the US with all the bells and whistles are available here in a base grade model with barn doors, vinyl flooring and with the 4.5L twin turbo diesel. I have three or four of these at work and they are a nice thing !! The 70 series trucks (what my new one is) are considered their military/industrial line and are what you see lots of roaming around Africa and the Middle East (as well as here in large numbers) they are in every sense "industrial built" !!

The laws here and in Europe are catching up as well. The current diesel Toyotas here (since 16 or 17) are fitted DPFs and are strangling them.

It's interesting that you mention that...

A couple of decades ago, my brother bought one of the new M151s that the .gov boys cut in half.

He welded it back up and had a really neat rig. Being marginally careful, he never rolled it over and killed himself.

He finally traded the M151 for a Firebird. You can probably guess who came out on the better end of that deal...

I wouldn't mind the M151 myself...

But, having seen at least a small part of Apex's warehouse, I have to say that I haven't seen any Jeeps...

Almost along the same lines, I have the weapons and my brother belongs to a military vehicle club. Drives his mutt in local parades. He still has a '60's era weapons carrier he is restoring. He had a '50's weps, but sold it off, what a beast.

I worked at a place a long time ago that had a couple of 1953 Dodge 3/4 ton weapons carriers and a 1953 Dodge 3/4 ambulance, all direct from US surplus sales (the ambulance still had plasma packets in the storage compartments).

The vehicles would go pretty much anywhere, as long as you could get a handle on turning (their turning radius was about the size as the State of Rhode Island)...

One of the weapons carriers was set up with a snow plow and had the weight to plow snow (which we got a lot of there in the central Adirondacks of NYS).

I loved driving those rigs...

But, probably this is irrelevant to the OP's comments about my friends at Apex...

Actually, now that I think about it, the weapons carriers and ambulance might have been later 1950s vehicles. We also had a couple of 1953 Willey's Jeep pickups, which might be clouding my memory.

Driving the Jeeps in the mid-1960s, I was impressed with the sloppiness in their steering (it took turning the steering wheel about 90 degrees to have any impact on vehicle direction). Shit, I had a 1953 Indian Roadmaster 80 motorcycle at the time, and 100 mph felt like 50 mph. Conversely, 50mph (if you could get there) in the Willey's Jeeps felt like 100mph (and that you were taking your life in your hands just driving it)...

OK, back to Apex...

I rented a Wrangler for a week in Hawaii about 15 years ago. Couldn't believe the slop and vibration in the steering. Pretty much like you see people in driving scenes of a 40's era movie.

I thought that was a requirement, like the Harley Davidson shake.
