Mauser barrels NOS
Sarco has the K98/48 barrels for sale this weekend.
Are these something of value or have they been compromised by Serbia? Or is this a sales gimmick? http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/mauser-98-...mint-bore.aspx

Good barrels. If they are in the shape they claim they will be good shooters. Unfortunately they are not full ribbed and half octagon, and in 9x57, so my search continues

No. They are not. They are also not half octagon. Neither are they full ribbed. They are standard 8x57, unfortunately for me. I am looking for a half octagon, full rib, 9x57

M48 is not K98. the M48 was about 1/4" shorter in action length. perhaps someone remembers if the barrels are also different in dimension.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Max. AliYahu, where did you get the Norwegian 7.62mm barrel? Been looking to rebarrel my Israeli Mauser.

The Numrich barrels were intended for match use in marksmenship programs and were NOS in like a dark phosphate finish. SAMCO had .308 Izzy bbls in the White for $50 in a true K98 profile. Some were marked, some were not. I have seen the SAMCO barrels being advertised as Kongsberg products. The IDF barrels are great quality but I wouldn't rate them in the same class as those manufactured in Norway. The Kongsberg barrels are slightly different than a true K98 profile, you need to do some extremely minor inlet work and modify the front band slightly as they are just a bit thicker. Pretty certain the barrels Copes had were IDF |

I bought one of those copes barrels, had sledgehammer use it on the Izzy Mauser build. I thought the barrel was a Norwegian heavy target barrel that had been turned down to Mauser military profile.
Regardless of origin it turned out to be a real tack driver.

I think it was actually Cole Dist. that had those barrels from Norway, rather than Copes.

I always get those two mixed up. Need to go back to the build docs and have a look any way, I think I need a correct front barrel band to finish that rifle. I should post some pics.

...and they are sold out
I would love to have found a 308 barrel, but no hurry.

I just went to the Copes Dist. site and you can click on a 7.62 Mauser barrel for the princely sum of $200. The new 8 mm barrels are listed as having a 1/2 in. removed from the muzzle - I bet they were threaded and cut the threads off.
Sorry, I didn't look close enough - the $200 7.62 barrel was a stripped FAL barrel. Jim |

Lothar Walther barrels are generally "long chambered" meaning that you'll need to take some measurements and turn the breachface back a few thou before tightening it onto the receiver. Most other barrels are short chambered so you'd need to buy/rent/borrow a reamer to finish ream the last few thousandths of the chamber to complete the install.

I have used 2 Norway barrels, 1 Lothar Walther, and 1 Israeli for 98ks in .308. They were all short chamber except for the the Israeli, which didn't need any adjustment.
I have had that LW barrel a long time though. Maybe they are different these days. The LW shot really well with SA R1M1. Everyone liked the Port back then, but I thought the South African was great ammunition. I sux and it made me look decent sometimes.

Yup, it was Coles.
![]() The only marking I could find on the barrel. ![]() Whoever did a good job turning down the barrel to mauser profile. I found a NOS Izzy stock for it. ![]() NOS Izzy Buttplate ![]() Receiver markings. ![]() ![]() When I got this thing from Century it looked like it had been buried in dirt and had the wrong bolt in it. Stock was F-d up and barrel was a sewer pipe. Got a bolt from Sarco and I found as many NOS parts as I could and sent it all off to Sledgehammer to build. ![]() Shoots like a laser but my eyes are bad. I want to scope this but am unsure of the best way to do it. Sorry for the crappy pics.

I have an Izzy Mauser 98 project in the "to do" pile. Your rifle is beautiful and inspiring. Well done!

![]() Any thoughts on scope mounts? I shoot left hand. Got to deal with bolt handle but dont much like the skyscraper high scope mounting of any type I see on these things. I'm leaning toward no-gunsmithing mounts, like a long low picatinny rail thing anchored to the rear sight base because I'm a little worried about drilling and tapping the receiver. Whichever way I go it needs to be fighting solid. I guess if I have to go high I will.

![]() I've not contacted him about the Mauser but he has done excellent work for me before on an Elcan C72. I've decided not to go with any of the original scope mounting methods and will try a no gunsmithing mount. I'm looking at this mount, just need to verify 100% that it fits with no bolt handle worries. https://www.badacetactical.com/produ...mount-no-drill I've an M24/47 with a Leupold long eye relief scope scout-mounted on it and don't much care for the scout mount concept. If I do this I'll want a cheek rest. I like the looks of this one. I can get it in lefty. https://brassstacker.com/mauser/Maus...-Carriers.html Looks like I might have been kinda lucky running into this barrel when I went looking. Not so easy to find NOS military profile Mauser barrels of any caliber though they are out there. This one sold recently on gunbroker, a NOS Izzy. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/791059849
