STG58 bipod springs?

Any tips on how one person can get an stg58 bipod installed without a vice/second pair of hands? I cannot even get the springs into the legs more than half their length even with full force using a punch to press them down.

Any tips are welcome. The one video I found on youtube was a guy pointing at an already built bipod which was not much help.

Assemble the clam shells and limiter tab onto the barrel with a screw through one side only. With the rifle against your chest with the bottom of the hand guards facing away from you, align the bipod leg to the clamshell assembly and lean into the rifle with the bipod leg against the edge of your work bench or table to compress the spring and plunger, aligning the hole. Insert pivot screw and tighten. Remove screw from other side, reverse the rifle and repeat.

What hk said, plus a pair of needle-nosed vise grips are very helpful too.
