Argentine Hi Power (M90)

Guys are these worth a crap?

I already have one, trigger is wonderful, I just can't hit a barn with it. Said rhetorical barn is easily bulls-eyed with other pistols.

It is reliable, just not accurate. Is it worth rebarreling/working on it or just better to get a real FN?

How's the trigger pull? You can get replacement parts to improve it
How's the bore? A good cleaning can do wonders, but a shot out one is hopeless.

Trigger is great, bore is good too.

Mine is pretty damn accurate. Bought it and only probably 100 rounds down the pipe

I hear you guys, but everything else I have I shoot large ragged hole groups, so I think its down to the gun.

Any barrel recommendations?

I have one a I bought years ago. The finish is not the same quality of my FN HP, but I believe it is a good quality pistol.

With FN ceasing HP production, the prices have gone to the stupid range, so you may not want to part with it.

I've owned one for a number of years. I admit I haven't sat down and shot it as a target gun but have busted many, many cans, and I've always figured if I can make cans dance, then as Doug Marcaida says, "It will kill!".

Traded a Gibbs .308 Jungle Carbine for it, to a Files member many years ago. I figured he must hate me for sending him a rifle that kicks like a mule! LOL

I have been thinking of customizing this pistol for a while. It's probably 59 or 60 on my list of projects! LOL
I'm anxious to see what kind of metals are used. I noticed metals are softer in Philippine 1911's, and wondered about the steel in Argy HP's.

Check the barrel lockup. It shouldn't wobble. If it does, that will kill any chance of accuracy, but can be fixed.
Check the slide/frame side to side.
Check your sights, could be loose.
If the recoil spring is too weak, it can cause erratic slide movement when fired.

Barrel does jiggle a bit.

Sights are good, will check slide fit.

Off to bar sto it seems...

How is slide to frame fit? Have a slide tightening tool for 1911's and might have for HiPowers if dig in the bin. If get frame to slide fit correct, buy an oversized barrel that says "professional fitting required" then reprint the thing while squaring and honing fire control pieces it cannot help but shoot good. Can spend more on parts and labor than value of pistol but it's satisfying to take a sloppy worn out pistol and turn to a tack driver.
