I remember as a kid the stuff that hurt was merthiolate. I seem to remember mercurochrome was the requested drug of choice for that reason.

Of course, that was more than a month ago, so I could be misremembering.

Merthiolate
mercurochrome
iodine
sea breeze
witch hazel

I learned to fear each and every one for different reasons .......

but if you saw 2 of that lineup coming out of the medicine cabinet at the same time your life flashed before your eyes and you knew you might die ......

Ah, yes! I wiped out on my bike on a gravel road one fine summer day with out a shirt on. Road rash my back from the shoulders to my waist. Mom, picked the stones out and then dumped a bottle of merthiolate over my back. I pasted my self to the bathroom wall like wall paper.
Remember, it had that little glass applicator?

Witch hazel ? Really ? I slap it on as after shave. Learned that from an old barber when I started shaving. Very soothing.

As for the other antiseptics listed mere childs play.

Why, when I was a kid and cut myself, my mom would heat a butter knife on the gas stove and slap it on. Then tell me to quit whinin' and go wash my hands for supper,,,

Yep, repaving the road and had a severe wreck. I even had scrubbed holes through a few fingernails, bit through my lower lip, and was a bloody mess. I wasn't allowed back on my bike for a few days. My mother was horrified when I came through the door.

Then there is the Grandmother cure all, a couple of drops of Coal Oil on a spoon full of sugar. The sugar did NOT help!

Coal oil was for intestinal parasites. Taken every spring until I was about 12. Grandpa used a big serving spoon that HE called a table spoon. He also kept a bucket of coal oil in the shed. If you got a more serious cut or abrasion that a bandaid wouldn't cover, the wound was dunked into the coal oil until the bleeding stopped.

Every fall we got a dose of sulfur and molasses along with cod liver oil. Used that same spoon too.

Dad loved Listerine as an antiseptic. I remember falling off a Jeep and ended up with gravel under the skin. Once the gravel was pried out, dad dumped a half bottle of Listerine over all of the holes. I think I would have opted for Illurian's butter knife. It would have burned less and for a shorter time.

Come on, Bactine was a BLESSING after all those other scourges ( although I still don't remember mercurochrome being as painful as the others) !!!!

In grade school fell out of a tree during recess. Sister Charlene Bronson ( of the convent of the Sisters of No Mercy ) was horrified, I told her I only could use Bactine ( because I KNEW what was in the first aid box !! ). She thought it was some exotic new antibiotic and sent me home. Score one for the good guys !

It would - contains Mercury - interestingly they banned it without ever testing it for toxicity just on principle. It was a good and persistent antiseptic.

If I were doing this meme, I would actually edit the Marine greatest battle to be Iwo Jima but the silliness of the area 51 "rush" is still just as silly.

Wonder Bread Woman, awesome!
When I was a kid our class went on a field trip to the local Wonder Bread Bakery. All of us kids got a free loaf of fresh right out of the oven bread. I was reminiscing about that just the other day, one of my good memories. The smell of fresh bread is one of the best.

Matthew 25:1 thru 25:10 Be ready!

The written word sometimes like poetry is never really finished but merely abandoned.

I live alone in the middle of nowhere with two dogs and a cat, what do you think about that.

The wind blows, the rain falls, the flag snaps its bravery in the dark as two dogs boil for attention at my feet.

Of course it is a true story. You just couldn't make up something like that, no way.

Actually five or more. There is a sharp pointy thing in the case too for when four weren't enough.
