The Gunny is dead

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...at-age-74.html

Quote:
R. Lee Ermey, a former Marine Corps drill instructor known to millions of moviegoers as the sadistic Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket," died Sunday morning, according to his longtime manager. He was 74.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Bill Rogin said Ermey had died due to complications from pneumonia.

R.I.P. Gunny. I enjoyed our time together, (your movies), except the one where you were kinda gay.

74 seems kinda young these days.

Was saddened to hear this news. I was always a fan of his, RIP Gunny.

Well,

Ive been looking for corroboration of the story because he was declared dead last year but it was retracted a day later.

Ive been looking for this story elsewhere.

Jim Henson died from this as well - I'm guessing that the Gunny thought he was tougher than he actually was and didn't go to the hospital for help until he had to be driven by the paramedics and placed on a ventilator... way too late by then.

Yep, my guess as well, but they are also some really bad bugs out there right now.

Docs have two vaccines for us older folks against this shit, that work really well.

One covers 13 varieties and the other 15 I believe.

Taken together, over six months, gives you immunity for 5 to 10 years against the most common types that will kill a fellow.

Lee Ermey jumped on the shooter shuttle next to me my last year at Camp Perry. Had the pleasure of shooting the breeze with him on our way to the 200 yard line on Viale range. He was the real deal. Took me just a second to realize who he was and once I did I kept it to myself. I think he liked that.

A role model for men, and a life well lived.

Im 55 and just had the most horrible chest congestion/cough/hack/weez--lasted 3 weeks--luckily for me I got on meds the second day--5 days of steroids, antibiotics, inhaler--after 5 days it was still kicking my ass--went to work after a couple days--coughed so bad I ended up in the ER the next day--got an X-ray of the chest to check for pneumonia-thankfully I didn't have it but the Doc gave me another three days of steroids--went through 3-4 bags of cough drops, 3 bottles of cough syrup. Here in Arizona there is so much dust in the air that it leaves half the state coughing. When your older, you cant put that shit off.

I'm guessing that both you and the Gunny may have had this, since it's common in the Southwest. Back here in the East, we have other nasty fungal infections.

We're all used to the 90 day cough out here, but whatever was going around this year was simply nasty, even by our standards.

I picked it up late Jan early Feb, and just now completely clearing out of my lungs, not fully, but better everyday.
