Possible East German .22 caliber AK Magazine?

I found this AK magazine recently and thought it was neat. It's a .22 caliber conversion type magazine and believed to be East German. And, when you push the button that is located towards the bottom, it releases the bottome plate about 2 inches and locks into another hole near the bottom for some unknown reason. Who knows?

Hi Leland, How have you been ? this is eagle54 - Dennis . i have not been around alot at all .. The magazine your referring to was for the , East German KK-MPI-69 .22 caliber rifle.. which never made it here as a full rifle.. there were some people who were attempting to convert the magazine to fit the Romanian Wasr . 22 and ATK-98 - .22 rifles. but that is quite a chore in its self.. here is a link to the rifle..

I have about 2-3 dozen of them. Got them cheap at an auction thinking they were for some AK-22 variant. I was wrong and am now stuck with a pile of proprietary magazines for a gun that does not exist in the US.

K. Funk, I see those mags going for sale every so often. With that said, I have not seen one of those rifles

I bought this one for $5.00 as a curiosity. Still neat.

$5 is the going rate, or at least it was 15yrs ago. still occasionally see them for $5 since there isn't much use for them but once in awhile I see some joker on GB trying to get $50 for one and claiming it's a super-special 'magic' magazine that is normally 30rd but extendable to 45rds for 'emergency' situations.

Um,....it's extendable for easy loading of thirty rounds since you can't grasp the follower inside the magazine body. Closing the mag restores proper spring pressure for feeding.

I've seen one or two post-sample guns and seen a few offered for sale over the years. Somewhere in the 'pile' I have the major parts from a demilled gun to build a semi,.........if I ever find myself with the parts and ambition in the same room. Bolt/carrier/trunnion,.....maybe even the barrel. Don't remember,.....haven't seen the parts in many years. Somebody even offered the recoil springs ridiculously cheap and I probably bought a dozen just in case.

according to what i've read the conversion involves adjusting the height of the insert so that it works with the romanian rifles by removing the existing rivets and re-riveting it in a different position... i have one of those rifles and a few magazines, but never got around to it.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Which is a good reason for me to get a few more

I mean besides that the ghost of Stephen Hawking told me to do so...
