I'm not sure what the "o-ring treatment" is, but if I remember correctly there was an o-ring in there when I took it apart. I'm new to ARs - is that not the case in every AR?

ArmaLite has been using extractor o-rings for many years. Early Eagle Arms and ArmaLite rifles did not have them and neither did other brands back then. It is merely a clever upgrade to improve extractor tension and improve reliability which has become nearly ubiquitous with AR manufacturers and builders.
Careful not to lose it when hitting it with a toothbrush!
