I'm sorry to say gents, but I won't be able to make it this year. I'm finally back in the free world, yet again so long as I work, I'm not truly free.

Carl - too bad, man. Hopefully you can make the grand reappearance next year.

Mike! Work travel killing your mojo? I was hoping you'd get out here. But next summer is only 12.5 months away...

Well, with the recent uptick in opium prices, the mercenary trade is pretty lucrative now in the far east, and grandma is wanting a new 10-22 sniper rifle so......

"Probably"? The Fall shoot is an Institution now. We just don't have a date set yet. Should have that figured out next month.

Gaddammit... It's looking like agriculture is going to keep me from making it down there. Hay cutting starts next Tuesday and I have another truck engine to rebuild... and a set of semi trailers to rewire and........ See you guys in the fall.

Unfortunately I won't be there. Due to the way the holidays fell this year, this term started a week late. Because of that the shoot is the weekend before finals instead of after so I still have classes

Ya gotta make hay when the sun shines brother, both literally and figuratively.

On the literal part, we did get a good little cut of horse hay in already.
Cow hay cutting will start soon if the fluxing rain ever stops

We cut 1400 acres of "cow hay" for export, then 600 acres of timothy "horse hay"for export. All done with New Holland 3'x4' big balers. But I do have a baler guy that can save me some sleepless nights. Up here we bale at night when the dew comes in. It can be 10 pm one night or 2 am the next. I just tell them, "Don't call me unless it breaks in half."
This afternoon we started planting 400 acres of dry beans for fall harvest mostly Pintos and Reds with some Blacks too.

Yeah, it's kind of mindblowing for me at the moment, we have John Deere tractors with infinitely variable transmissions that are in communication with the baler via data link and the baler sensors control he tractor speed and rpm to make an optimum bale. Far cry from when I was a kid on the old 656 Farmall pulling a 2 string baler. Gonna take a bit for me to fit in to this.

You're cutting hay, and we just had a 45 load steel order proceed to the rolling mill hoping my loads take a while and have to go through heat treat, otherwise they'll release mid next week and have to be hauled out ASAP. Fingers are crossed.

Seven tiers on edge with a double "Ellensburg" tie with a 4 foot overhang. I'm betting we knew a lot of the same people. I trucked around the basin, mostly grain. But did a lot of running with those haulers when I hauled grain to the docks. I think there's only one or two boomers left up here. Did some toploading in my high school days too.

I think Vanderveen is the one doing most of our boom loading in the basin. Most of our customers have switched to buying compressed kickouts from Ellensburg, easier to haul anyhow lol.

Yep, he's the one I was trying to remember. Still a lot of 2 string baled around here and a steady line of Ward-Rugh trucks hauling it.

Well lets see who I can remember , I rented a house in Pasco on North 9th
from Howard Connell , regular customers were Stroh's out of gig harbor
Swanson's hay out of Spokane , Winebarger's on the Glade , Sadly Johnny
passed a while back. Think it was 88 when I loaded Courtney Calaway's
trucks 5 to 6 days a week ( more or less ) 2 to 3 loads a day , don't remember
the drivers names , Ron Hayhurst out of Idaho , and a few that I can't recall,
I new Jimmy Bumpus ( not sure how to spell his name ) the only boom loader
that I have heard of still loading is Jeff , cant recall his last name , oh and also
Vandergreen hay out of Abbotsford ? Canada

I think I might be just a wee little tad bit behind you on size, scale, and technology in the hay business.

Not much though. Half a century is not much in the big scheme of things

I was a long shot for making the Oregon shoot all along, aaaaaaaaaand, no joy. Schedule, schedule, schedule. Accelerated, just-in-time construction is a wicked business. Making hay, if you know what I mean.

Will be there. Home inspection this morning. Got an offer last
week that we accepted. Keeping fingers crossed.

Good news: The FAL Shoot is still on!

Bad news: The list of attendees is starting to look smaller, and what was once a bitchin' "pre party" is now a sort of requiem:

http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=12

These are the people who we think are coming "for sure"

4x401 - and maybe Kevin or even more of the crew...
Tuscan Raider
tdb59
FrankCox
Dayton
Sigg
Buddy
JCoombs
brunop
Jonathan
Sophia
Natalie
Brother Greg
Katelyn
Jacob
Sam
JDHD Junkie
Tailback
sportsnut
Elkaholic
gaijinsamurai
Tat2
snowhawk jockey
old_spambo
Milsurp Monkey

And these people are still a solid "maybe"

Otis61 - maybe one day (Sat), maybe zero
Brush511
Brother Wayne
Gandalf
ALL FAL
223/308shooter
Mark60
gordonm1
totenkopf
PSL54Junkie
Rich of Oregon

It would be great if you all made it - I'm hoping some of the things you're working against line up for the weekend in question. And to Otis61 and JonnyP (and anyone else getting screwed by graduations, I'm sorry we didn't think of that a year ago when we put this out there for everyone's input. Neither 4x401 nor I saw this coming.
